HD Receivers and DVR's have 8 IR codesets. As others have said the D11 only knows two codesets. The only other Directv receiver to have the 8 IR codesets is the discontinued R22 SD dvr.

The only other way to differentiate so many Directv receivers without use of an aftermarket solution, is by RF. But again D11's don't have that feature available to them.

Put the emitter inside the directv box, black out the IR window and use IR routing.

Connect one remote to Rotary switch box on the table hardwired to an umbilical to all 7 receivers IR with emitters. I put the K into Kustom. :)
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

GotGame just reminded me of a sports bar I did over a dozen years ago. They had RCA and Sony DirecTV receivers, as many as four of each.

I built a box with four slots the same size as the face of a Xantech table-top IR sensor, with the slots about six inches deep, painted black on the inside. At the back of each slot was a table-top sensor wired to one particular RCA and one particular Sony satellite receiver. We used the top sensor for all the other components in the system, too. Being a sports bar, that was three large RPTVs of the same brand; I used the slots for them.

To use it, you'd put the end of the appropriate remote a half inch or more into the right slot, then push the buttons.

One RCA remote, one Sony remote, on TV remote (I've forgotten the brand).

The box had to be mounted so the slots were at an angle that was natural for holding the remotes.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

tvanweezel, I would probably choose the RTI T3-V and use the RTI XP-8 Control processor with IOGEAR RS232-to-USB adapters plugged into the back of each DIRECTV unit. You'll have RF control through the cabinet doors and will not have to worry about IR crosstalk or emitters falling off the equipment.

You need to hire an RTI dealer for the equipment and programming. Controlling multiple DIRECTV boxes and TVs in one area is not easy; make sure that you hire someone that has programmed a similar situation.

If you do not find an installer in this forum, go to www.CEDIA.net to find an installer in your area.

Hey, william -- are there that many code sets? I know you can associate several receivers with RF remotes such that each remote only talks to one receiver, but does this work for IR, too?

Ernie,

Sorry--too much eggnog while surfing. I missed the model number on the D11 thing but the newer boxes I think support at least 8 different IR codes. I thought, though, that there were only 2 RF codes to choose from on the DTV remotes.

Im gonna lose custom points for this one but somehow I have a feeling that he aint springin for a 980 or a T3V..... Maybe its the D11 boxes that threw me.

Anyways, I assume there is One main TV tied to one main receiver. I also assume matrix is not involved. Turn the main receiver to RF and carry that remote around with you for quick and easy change of the main receiver. Tie the TVs power and volume into this remote also (for all TV's if they are the sames).

Second, (and I cant believe I am saying this out loud) fabricate a "tube" that extends from the top of the 2nd remote (set to IR) out about 3 inches. When you need to change the other 6 receivers channel walk up to them with the second remote set to IR and hold the remote to the desired receiver IR and change the channel. Pain in the ass but thats the DIY way.

LOL.....

Or you could do it right and buy a custom remote. This way you could even power on all TVs at once, change volume independently, and of course control the directv independently.

Yes but you gained creativity points LOL

That's assuming he ran proper wiring along with the audio/video cables.

Which brings me to this point. Having 7 TV's I would hope with completely Hidden wires, Did you run conduit or do you have access to adding additional wiring?

The T3v would be the most elegant, also adding a nice in RK3 or even a RK1-8 controller would be cool to. Especially in a "sports bar" setting.

But at a minumum a URC 880 solution could get you by.

upgrade your crappy SD D-11s first. Surely you dont have 7 old CRT TVs. I would imagine you have at least some EDTV flat panels. go HD!

If you have 7 boxes feeding 7 TVs, even if all 7 TVs use the same remote, you're using a system with 8 remotes at a minimum, or 14+ at max (+ is for AVR if one or more are involved).
Do yourself, your family and your friends a favor, use part of your tax return to hire a pro and at least learn what your options are for getting total control from 1 remote. Trust me, you'll love it.

If you going to give him the answer, give him a complete one.
Just say to use an empty toilet paper roll tube, you know that's what you were thinking... :-)
Or use a full roll since with all that running around, you'll need something to wipe the sweat off ...

Yea, I said it :-)
