....... I am glad Daniel has decided to look for moderators, but from past experience, those not chosen wisely can have catastrophic effects as well. AGREED. However, I'm not worried, I'm quite sure Daniel is smart enough to keep the mod on a short leash.

Daniel, I'm sorry you were put in the position you were. I have been coming here for a lot of years and appreciate all your hard work and improvements you've made to the site. Your site has been a great resource for me, as well as so many others. could not have said it better

I have often been impressed with the amount of restraint DT has shown and this place is where it all started and I'm very appreciative of RC. It has saved my arse a bunch of times. RC was the first industry web site that became a required stop for all of us. I suppose some would argue AVS but that site became a train wreck long before Stanley arrived here. agree

uh oh -- I better post my porn-related stories elsewhere. You have my email.......oops. I just changed ISPs so perhaps you do not! As a married man, were it not for porn related stories I'd have to watch women play Twister to see them contort their bodies into positions Olympic gymnasts have difficulties performing. On a less humorous note, I cannot see how this event represents progress. AHEM said it very well--South Bend most be a very different place then all others in Indiana since you make so much sense so often. You most explain how you do not support the local semi-professional football team, however. I do not see how "tough moderation" is a good thing. I so much preferred market forces to Big Government and I am bemused that so many small government types have finally come out of the closet and shown themselves to be big brother, big government ideologues. That's the nicest thing that you've ever said to me. I'm truly flattered You most explain how you do not support the local semi-professional football team, however. That's another subject for another day.

I'm a strong believer in "arguments can eventually work themselves out amongst mature adults". And for a decade it has worked [mostly] without issue. I just looked at the accounts database, and there has only been 2 other suspended members with more than 10 posts.
However, lately, too many people have been playing keyboard commando, and on the flip side of the coin too many people have been flying off the handle at the drop of a hat.
If people can remain calm enough so that when they see something that irks them, instead of firing off an even more inflammatory response, instead take a deep breath, go make a cup of coffee or have fun with the family, and then later come back and perhaps if they still feel its warranted, post a reasoned and intelligent response.
I hope that with "the great cleaning" we can return to the type of helpful and friendly forum membership that I've been proud to talk about at Expo - one that doesn't actually *need* AVS-style moderation. It may have become necessary in this circumstance, but let's not make it necessary again.
In future,
1) If you have a concern about the direction that a thread is taking, don't post about it - PM or email me and I'll take a look at it. Soon enough there will be additional moderators you can also contact.
2) If you have a problem with a member, again don't post - PM or email me. Include specifics of what the problem is. Throughout this recent event I heard privately from only 3 members about a certain other member. Smoke makes it easier to find the fire.
Finally, anyone marked as "suspended" is not permanently banned, but must request reinstatement privately.

I recently posted a pic for Mr. Stanley and said that if he didn't like it to just say the word and I would remove it. Shortly there after Stanley chimed in with "THE WORD" and I immediately removed it. Mr. Stanley PM'd me and stated that he LOVED the pic but was concerned that others here might be offended. No problemo. However, it got stuck in a quote and I had to ask for Daniel's help to remove it. I oppoligized for not showing more discretion and assured him that I PROBABLY wouldn't do it again. Daniel never got back to me but he did take care of it quickly. I can only hope that Daniel at least got a little chuckle out of it before cussing me out (to himself). For those that didn't see it, the pic was of a guy with a large belly that had a tattoo of a house cat on it. The guys belly button was strategically placed as the cats rearend. The problem was that this guys belly button was not an inny or an outty. It was a droopy. In Stanley's PM he stated that "OMG that looks exactly like my cat". My name is mitch, I was a maroon.
