This thread better not get shut down.

Now that would be interesting to see. I suspect there would be a fair bit of post deleting and member suspension before this one got closed. Closing a thread is one thing, cutting your own throat while you do it is another. I'd go out on a limb and say it's likely this thread brings a fair bit of traffic to RC.

Impaqt?

Started a new project today, was supposed to actually. They closed on the house this morning, I was due to start at 1:30...

Well this project has a interior desecrator and she has to approve the TV and speaker location on the wall. It's on the same freaking wall just 4ft on either side. And where it lands determines where I fish (attic or basement). Problem is the desecrator said she would be here at 2, well she hasn't showed up and now won't be here until 5:15....so today was absolutely shot.

I've felt like this all day:

It's not just Stan doing all of it. Many other just have a need to jump on the bandwagon. Myself included.

The real problem I have with threads getting moved and closed, is that it seems to be done on a whim rather than for any good reason.

Everyone can have an opinion. As long as I don't call you names for yours, and you don't call me names for mine, things SHOULD be left to run their course.

Sorry, but I think one moderator is going too far too soon. That person needs to take a short break, or maybe he can send us all packing for a few weeks.

You are correct. Everyone can have an opinion. 'Merica! Whatever. It is also perfectly fine for moderators to do what, in their opinion, is the right thing to do. If you are looking for a place where it is a free for all, there are plenty of those on the 'net. Go find one and have at it. I will stay here where there is at least some kind of filter for the worthless crap.

Today i "troubleshot" some lighting load issues, started wiring a pentair iLink up for pool control and then got side tracked so i will finish tomorrow. Then i went to buy a new rear wiper blade because it rained in arizona so some jack ass stole my wiper blade.

I havent had anything stolen off or from in my car since i moved out of the city of chicago almost 10 years ago. I am in Carefree, AZ. Its an upscale looking area but maybe im missing something? Do rich people stay rich by stealing wiper blades?

Signed up to volunteer for a local food bank. I think it'll be rewarding. Always wanted to help. Looking forward to the opportunity.

A lot of good people out there down on their luck. Feel blessed to help.

A lot of working poor here. Median house cost $508 K. Rents are insane too.

I lived in Wicker Park (trendy area in Chicago) 20 years ago. My studio apartment was $600 a month one day and $1600 the next. Now they are $2500 for 400sqft boxes. Homes that were purchased for $40,000 in the late 80's were selling for $500,000 in the mid 90's. Those same homes are 7 figures now.

I loved the neighborhood but there was nothing about it that would make me spend that kind of money. I can rent a 3500 sqft house on a half acre with 3 car garage/finished basement/deck etc in the suburbs for $1900 a month. I can buy the same house for $250k. Or you can go with a 1000sqft house on a couple of acres for the same price. In Chicago you can't even buy parking spaces in most places. In Wicker Park i collected 5-7 tickets per week. I replaced windows 4 or 5 times a year because of crack heads stealing change or CD's. Once someone stole my brothers entire windshield so they could get his new $90 City Sticker. If you try and remove it you can tell so they steal the windshield.

Anyone choosing to let themselves go poor because they want to hold on to Seattle is insane. Move. You can get weed and weird beers and hipster hangouts everywhere now.

Yeah... With a local exploding economy comes exploding real estate. A friend of mine landed a decent job here and moved here in August from Missouri. She was blown away by the rents. Not knowing the area, and without checking with me first, she signed a lease ( one year) in the absolute sketchiest part of town. Heroin addicts, crackheads, daily shootings, rapes etc... (You know- you are from Chi-town)! I've spent time in Chicago (which I loved), but I am not even trying to compare Seattle's crime with yours, but we DO have a couple of small areas that are fairly dangerous... We have a suburb called Tukwila which many have rated as the number one most dangerous area in the U.S.

I told her to get renter's insurance and maybe a gun because she may need both! --- And I'm not a gun guy after losing 4 friends in 2012 one morning -- but she is a younger single female living a hell - hole, where if you are smart, you don't go out after dark!

I'm looking to re locate somewhere cheap but safe. Possibly in another country ( and no---its not because I don't like this country---I love it)... Its just getting too expensive.

Ever since Microsoft started here, and now the take over of the city by Amazon, EVERYTHING has changed. My old house went fro $85K to over $650K in just a few years. Today it is valued at $770K --- and it was a SMALL house.

The new thing here is what they call Appodments. 250 sq foot places with communal kitchens and some have communal bathrooms and NO parking! $1,200 a month. The developers assume everyone will bike, or take metro transit.

Mac- while I agree with you, too a point / some people have good jobs and nice homes - and are getting taxed out due to crazy property taxes and they cannot pull their kids out of school and flee just like that.

Its a catch 22. With a booming local economy come all the other BS due to blood sucking money grabbers - not to mention 1 hour commutes to drive 15 miles each way to work.

That is one of the reasons I left a job I had a couple of years ago--- 17 miles each way, 1 to 1.5 hours each way with a bridge toll each day totaling $4.50 to $7 depending on what time I took the bridge. The idiots here cannot drive in the rain, and so when it rained you could expect a two hour commute (each way), because of knuckleheads getting into fender-benders!

I am out of town at a clients guest house working on a project. I have been binge watching "The property brothers" fixer upper show as background noise while i work at my desk. They keep spray foaming everything and it got me thinking...

Their whole thing is ripping old houses down to studs, yanking plumbing and electrical and replacing it all. It's easy because everything just falls out of the walls when they rip out the drywall and plaster. Then they spray foam the crap out of every wall or ceiling cavity. Isn't that going to suck for the people who want to remodel homes in 20,30,50 years? Everything will be sealed together with sprayfoam.

Foam is not that hard to pull out. Its typically only on exterior walls. Not on ceilings either. Although some have been led to believe its this great sound proofing option and go crazy.

I would imagine in 20+ years its even easier to pull out than now. Besides, who would put thought into how hard it will make for the next remodel when youre old? lol. Really? There is no way i would build a house WITHOUT spray foam. One of the greatest inventions of recent times for sure.

Due to a confidentiality agreement I cannot say.

I can say the toys I get to play with everyday is a privilege and have to pinch myself at times to make sure I am not dreaming.
