I just got word that the Weather.com xml feed we have all been using for a weather widget on our Pronto's is being phased out October 31st. They are graciously offering a similar service for only $63/month.
Has anyone looked at converting the weather widget to some other XML feed? I understand there are a number of other RSS feeds that might be useful.

Not an expert. What other XML Weather feeds are there?

I got the notice from them last week as well. I will be writing around another feed; likely The National Weather Service (US). Don't know if you are in US but we should compile a list here if there are other free options.
I've always wanted to pull motion radar in as well but sites I have found use animated GIF's or flash. Right now I pull stationary radar off Weather.com through direct web links which should continue to work.

I believe wundergound.com has some free feeds.
n2hifi, are you doing some active redevelopment of the weather module?

Not really active. I looked at National Weather Service but haven't figured out how to get current conditions yet. I was hoping for some other suggestions here before I moved forward. It would be a pretty simple change so it wasn't on my priority list.

Just an update. Looks like they finally blocked the xoap feed (which I think very few people used anyway) over the weekend. The xml.weather.com feed still works. The only thing I cannot get right now is weather alerts that I pulled off the xoap feed.

Below is a copy of the letter I received from the Weather Channel. They specifically state that the xoap feed will be terminated midnight November 15th. However, I am using the xml feed that a number of individuals here are using. As of today, I have not seen any interruption in the service.
Just thought I would pass this along
Scott

Thanks Scott
Now we will all have to look for a new feed.. As I mentioned above, the weather module that I use gets it's info from the xml.weather.com feed and not the xoap.weather.com feed. As of this morning it still works and there is no mention that this feed is to be terminated. I will try to upload my current config to remote central tomorrow for those looking for something to replace the xoap feed. To see pics of the weather module and the rest of my interface, please see a previous thread at [Link: remotecentral.com]
A number of the icons have been redone since these pics... although still more to do. Not sure when I will get the chance in the next while as I have a four month old girl now and a 2½ year old boy... my free time has evaporated. I will send the config as is and hopefully finish it off in the future and re-post it. Items to complete: • Various icons for the phases of the moon. • New weather icons (although at the bottom of my list as this will take a lot of time). • New icons for Contacts, Help & Support, Pictures in the ‘Other’ page in the Activity Selection area. As well as for Custom Installer, Programmer and Remote Settings in the ‘Setup’ page in the Activity Selection area. These are currently ones found on the internet (All other icons, buttons, etc I created from scratch in Photoshop). • Finish off the TV station icons in the Satellite TV Stations section (some are still based on older design I made. • Weather module programming – trying to get multiple weather warnings to scroll across the screen... currently only grabbing the first warning. Hoping to store the day's high temp in order to retrieve that info after 2:00pm... when it is no longer available from The Weather Channel. Have not had the chance to continue this work. Feel free to give it a try and re-post the module and/or code to get this to work. Scott

I have just submitted my full configuration which includes a weather module that works. Hopefully, Daniel will have it available soon. See link above to see pics of the new interface and weather module.
Hope this helps.

With regard to xml.weather.com, I can report that the feed is still active but they must have something in place that prevents multiple requests for different zip codes/locations in a specific timeframe as I can indeed see weather but 2 request within 5 minutes for different zip code does not appear to work. Ignore this. I was running a PEPv1 configuration on a remote with PEPv2+ firmware. My Prontoscript on Firm Keys was not working. Dohhhhh!!!!

Interesting... I do not seem to have that problem. Just tested and cycled through all 5 different zip codes with no issues. Scott

Has this been listed yet as I cannot see it? Thanks Gareth It sometimes takes a little while from the time the file is submitted to it actually showing up on the site. Daniel is a very busy guy and it probably is not as simple as just posting the file once submitted. Be patient. It will come. Scott
