Has anybody heard of any solutions to control a Playstation 3 through the ethernet port or over wifi? Anything similar to the Remote Play option with the PSP? I know there is a thread that discusses a product that allows you to put a IR usb dongle on the PS3 allowing to control the Blu-Ray (which is really what I'm after). I just wondered if there was any hack or way to connect the TSU9600 to the PS3 via a more ultimate solution? Any ideas? Thanks.

Right now that's your only solution.

Currently there's only 3 ways to control the PS3...

* Stock BT controllers
* Optional BT movie remote
* IR dongle system as described in my article

There's no other external control capabilities at this time.

A company is releasing a simpler IR system for the PS3, which integrates into a single USB-key sized device, however it offers no additional capabilities.

Hard to conceive that Sony would overlook such an option?

Hey Tonks,
Do you know who and/or when to expect this device? I haven't looked for an old PS2 IR remote yet and am thinking if this might be out by Christmas I can just hold off on it. I just want my BD and music capabilities on the Pronto. Thanks! J

There are other IR options available aside from the old PS2 IR remote solution. See here.

FYI...the solution Lowpro suggests works perfectly.

I can confirm that as well. I have the Nyko BluWave remote with the RTI controllers and it's perfect.

I think what the original poster, gbk33, is talking about is a VERY good point. I, too, have just purchased the TSU9600 and the ability to control the PS3 via WiFi IP would be fantastic.

As it turns out, the PSP is able to do that and the PS3 is getting firmware version 2.00 tomorrow. This firmware will allow the PSP to turn the PS3 on and off via IP.

So, if the PSP can do it, why can't our WiFi IP devices?

Do we need to contact the PS3 developers as Sony to allow us to do this? Will this functionality occur over the Playstation network?

gbk33, perhaps someone could write a program using ProntoScript that would allow our TSU9600's to log into the Playstation network so we can program some buttons to control the PS3.

The first task is to get Sony to release the Protocol specifications, the message format not the TCPIP specs. If someone gets that its all down hill from there.

Absent the spec what is needed is an ethernet sniffer to reverse engineer what is going on, and that generally leads to un reliable operation since it is hard to reverse engineer all of the nuances that have to be handled.

Perhaps the service manual has some info?

I have bought the Nyko remote but the codes that I have learned into the 9600 do not work ½ the time. The 9600 is very frustrating to use when commands don't work ½ the time. The Nyko remote itself works very reliably. What is going on? Any ideas?

Follow the two steps outlined below and the codes learned from the Nyko remote will work flawlessly via the TSU9x00 and PS3.

1) As you are learning each of the codes from the Nyko remote make sure to hold each button down until the Pronto editor states that the code is learned. This will ensure that the repeating part of any given code is learned as well.

2) From the "Add IR Code" window, the same window you are working in while learning a given IR code make sure to set the minimum IR duration for each code to 0.01 seconds. Do not leave the duration set to "Default", otherwise these learned codes will either lack responsiveness requiring multiple presses at times for the PS3 to respond or be too responsive where a short button press sends a given command twice rather than once as should be the case.
