My 4 year old son spilled a small amount of pepsi on my remote, on the left hand side near the page buttons.
I quickly tried to wipe it and thought I got it clean, but about an hour after it happened the pages just started randomly flipping and wont stop.
I turned off the remote ad left it screen down overnight and most of today hoping the pepsi would dry and a miracle would happen. Sadly it did not and the problem persists.
I am in Ottawa Canada and I was wondering if anyone has had his problem before or how I can go about getting it fixed?
I pre ordered the remote a while ago through the US so I am sure my warranty is void here and I have no clue where to take the remote to be fixed. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

not with a 9600, but there are several similar threads in the classic section.
1) remove the battery (electricity and high sugar liquids don't mix). 2) then try some clean water(just a few drops, there can be sugar causing the button to stick) 3) put it upside down so that the liquid can come out 4) let it dry completely (overnight is good) 5) hopefully all is OK

You could also try 800-233-8413 Option 1

Anthony,
Disassembly of a 9600 is more complicated. There are 2 screws on the back of the unit. They are behind the label with the serial number. Even though you remove the screws, the back of the unit still has some plastic hooks that can break if manhandled too strongly.
I've successfully disassembled a 9600 but I would NOT recommend doing so for the normal user. I'd highly suggest calling the 800 number above and seeing if they will swap out the unit.

I did not recommend disassembly. My experience comes from the 2000 or 1000, in a meeting someone spilled coffee, and I got the call, at the time there were a few threads in the old Pronto format and went with the same advice. drop a few drops of lukewarm water to try and dissolve any residual (sugar in both, acid in Pepsi) then place it screen side down so that the liquids run out or away from most important electronics and let it dry and then put the battery back in
(OK I never seen a 9600 so don't know if the battery can come out-or if you need to open it)

Use distilled water instead of tap water if you're going to. A general rule for all electronics.

If you can take the battery out and drop a few drops of distilled water in where the pepsi went, then let it dry (atleast 24 hours), there really can't be a better solution. I've dropped my blackberry in a paint bucket on accident, took it out, took the battery out, and washed it with water, then let it dry for about 2 days, put the battery back in, and all was normal.
