Disassembly of a 9600 is more complicated. There are 2 screws on the back of the unit. They are behind the label with the serial number. Even though you remove the screws, the back of the unit still has some plastic hooks that can break if manhandled too strongly.
I've successfully disassembled a 9600 but I would NOT recommend doing so for the normal user. I'd highly suggest calling the 800 number above and seeing if they will swap out the unit.
