Strengths:Preloaded functions are great. BUT THAT's IT!
Weaknesses:DOWNLOADING - REPROGRAMMING CAPABILITIES ARE IMPOSSIBLE. THE REFUSAL OF DENON TO TAKE RESPOSSIBLITY FOR THE DOWLOAD PROBLEMS IS REDICULOUS.
Review:I would not purchase this remote seperately but as it coome with the AVC unit....what can i do!

Strengths:Denon AKTIS RC8000 remote programming problems solution.

Free with top Denon products.
DON'T BUY it otherwise.
Weaknesses:Too many, just read the posts.
The downloadable PC software is marginal.
Even after very cool PC download programming that took hours, I still reach for the other remotes.
Review:A work-around for my Denon AKTIS RC8000 remote programming problems.

Programming my remote worked until recently, but after a Win update, it wouldn't download etc.
I run Win2000 with all updates to 9/03, MSOffice XP and IE6.0

In Summary:
Upload your current remote, make changes, download
--->DO NOT SAVE BEFORE DOWNLOADING<---
Test for changes/errors, restart rc8000 editor repeat process.

After fooling around for a long time, I did this process twice and it worked. To the best of my memory this is it. Please feel free to add improvements especially for idiosyncrasies of other Win versions

1) Reset remote via tiny pinhole switch in battery compartment
2) Just to be sure the unit is reset, remove batteries during next part
3) Completely remove the old RC8000.exe (win add/remove programs)
4) Find and delete any "RcxUsbA.*" files (RcxUsbA.inf, RcxUsbA.sys)
5) Find possible "RCXINUSE" and delete
6) Run RegClean.exe to clean up the registry (Google RegClean.exe)
7) Reinstall RC8000.exe
8) Open up "Unplug/Eject hardware" (this is the box that pops up when you plug/unplug a USB cable in with a device connected)
9) Install new batteries needed for reprogramming, not rechargeable which have a lower voltage
10) Plug in the USB remote to PC
11) Note the driver install process and get the new driver from "C:\Program Files\DENON\RC-8000 Editor" folder
12) Note the successful USB connection in "Unplug/Eject hardware" and check "properties" if you like to see that it is working
13) Check remote version number in remote setup, if it is not 3.13 then
A) Turn off all other programs (mail) so nothing can interrupt the download/update process
B) Run RCXUPDATE1_5.exe to 3.13 if required. Mine worked on top of my previous update when my remote was hosed due to an interrupted program download.
C) Note the download window progress
D) When finished (a long time), you should be at version 3.13, check the remote
14) Run RegClean.exe to clean up the registry again!

Now that everything is ready:
1) Open the "C:\Program Files\DENON\RC-8000 Editor" folder and watch for files created and deleted like the "RCXINUSE" during the next steps.
2) Turn off all other programs (mail) so nothing can interrupt the download/update process
3) Start the RC8000 Editor program
4) Do NOT open any files or do anything else
5) Upload the contents of the remote
6) Make changes
7) DO NOT SAVE CHANGES in a file
8) Download changes to remote
9) Save the file if you like for a backup reference.
10) Close the RC8000 Editor
11) Find possible "RCXINUSE" and delete

If you need to make more changes, Restart the RC8000 Editor and repeat.

Remember, the only GOOD copy of the remote is IN the remote! You'll have to start from a full reset with a default setup if it goes bad. You then use your backup reference to help remember what you did.

Strengths:Style, editing features
Weaknesses:slow macros, screen to screen loading time
Review:i actualy don't have this remote, i use the philips pronto which i feel is a better remote, but PCMALL is offering the denon 8000 for $149.00, and at that price this thing is a reall contendor. anyways check it out, since this price won't last for long...

Review 26 made on Wednesday February 12, 2003 at 9:53 PM.
Strengths:Works. Lots of capability.
Weaknesses:Can't customize button labels without downloading and reflashing. The joystick thing is annoying because it performs some features not easily repeatable with other remotes.
Review:I found the remote to be intuitive, with many more features than expected. However, being a $500 remote, and I did the wise thing and went out and purchased another $100 remote from a retailer, and reprogrammed it from the RC8000. This way, if the cheap remote ever fails, I have a fallback. And there are some things that only the RC8000 can do. Above average intellect required. If you're a moron, don't purchase this AVR & Remote-- it will be too much for you to grasp.

Strengths:Text labeling of buttons is very good.
Software upgradable. PC programable via
USB.
Weaknesses:Bulky. Not enough buttons per page on LCD.
Can not copy Mitsubishi remotes used with
thier big screens.
Review:This remote is OK. I still think my
Marantz universal is better though. The
Marantz doesn't have the LCD/Text of the
Denon though but, it has never failed to
copy a remote from another mfg. The Denon
remote is $499.00 and has problems copying
but the Marantz is only $250.00 and does
not.

Strengths:None that I can imagine, I have been programming high end remotes for too many years to even consider this to be a viable solution to multi equipment control.
Weaknesses:The software is extremely limited, the communication is slow, and the overall look and feel is very cumbersome.
Review:In my opinion this remote is definitly a big negative for Denon, I like their products, but for them to include this remode with their product, put thier name on it, but offer no kind of support on it is just assanine.

Review 23 made on Tuesday February 12, 2002 at 9:21 AM.
Strengths:Ready out of the box. The RF fucntion of the remote is simply the best for multi zone control.
Weaknesses:Using the remote for controling DBS sucks since you have to hit a botton before you can use the joystick part of the romote
Review:The best budled remote with a reciever. I wouldn't buy it by it's self though.
