Any of you guys successfully control Sony over IP? I had two installations last year with the Android based Sonys and they always stop working after a few days of inactivity. Simple IP control and RS-232 is enabled, DHCP reservation, etc. I did them with IR in the end but I would love to have a reliable all IP solution(TV, Roku, Apple TV Sonos Integra and Tivo).

I use Savant and RTI which can easily control th XBR B, C & D series televisions. In the least, the Sony app works well.

But it is contingent on many different settings being set to a certain way to achieve full feedback and control.

Which settings? I had easy ip control on, eco mode off, DHCP reservation in the router, RS-232 control on. It would stop responding after a while anyway.

Were you using the pre-shared key method and it still dropped out?

Can anyone elaborate on the correct settings needed for RS232 control? I'm 90% sure I have everything set correctly yet I experienced the same issue as Krassyg. Everything worked fine controlling my XBR75X850E from an Extron MLC controller for about a month and now the TV doesn't respond at all.

I've been reading that the Sony RS232 ports only work intermittently. Even tech support at Extron said they had a rough time getting it to work. They said sometimes the RS232 port took commands and sometimes it didn't.

We have had 232 control of the Sony A1 OLEDs but it's pretty average and only has basic commands.
IP control has everything including Netflix direct launch and feedback of channel number, inputs etc.
If you can only do 232, get a IP to RS232 adapter from eBay. they are bullet proof and cost $30AUD

Go to video-storm.com and look at their IRUSB dongle. I use one to control an Amazon Fire TV Cube and one to control a nVidia Shield. It is not obvious from the name of the device, but it will accept TCP/IP commands sent to the device over the network. I control both of these devices in my home theater using only TCP/IP. I am not sure if it will work with the Android-based Sony TV but I am sure their tech staff will know
