Been playing with stuff for years, never ran across this one, lucky I guess. When it's plugged in by itself, it responds & works fine. If I connect a TV or AC power supply adapter to it, it will respond to off command, but then in a few seconds it will turn on again by itself! Tried both different code settings, always responds, but still goes on after an off command. Tried 3 different manufacturers modules, all act the same. Past midnight when I ran into this, so I gave up. Will try other ideas tonight, but thought I would run it past the forum, maybe someone has seen this oddity. Thanks.

The appliance module is rated for 500W. Sometimes when you plug in something that's greater than 500W, it has trouble turning off. I experienced this once with my coffeemaker. When I finally looked, I realized that the coffeemaker was 850W. I've also known this to typically happen with fluorescent lighting too, even very low voltage ones like 20W. When you turn it off, it will flip back on after a few seconds. Most X-10 devices are rated only for incandescent lighting. Although they do sell some light switches for fluorscent lights. Anyone else have a suggestion? Roland S

Dan: It sounds like the "local control" feature in the module is sensing a change in current and turning back on in response to it. The local control feature allows you to quickly switch the plugged in device on/off/on and the module will turn on without an X-10 ON signal. Since you have tried 3 different modules it is not likely that they are all defective. Try connecting the module to a lamp (over 40 watts) and see if it works properly at the same location you have it now. If it does, then it is most likely the local control feature that is kicking in. There are some things you can do to solve a "local control" problem, including disabling the feature on the module. If you would like more information on how to do this, let me know what type of module you are using, and what the device's wattage, amps, and voltage. Also, as Roland mentioned, do not exceed the wattage or amp ratings on any modules as it is not safe. Robert RCI Automation [email protected] [Link: ourworld.compuserve.com]

Thanks! Would love to have the info on disabeling the feature. The Modules are the heavy duty Appliance 15Amp ones that are just off/on, no dim. The two devices together don't draw more than 4-500 watts. I'll try the low watt light. The SmartHome part #'s are 2002RCA, 2002PH and 2001PH in the latest catalogue. The other thought I had would be a possible bad/weak neutral wire. Again, had no time last night to troubleshoot, too tired. Let you know what I find. Thanks again, gentlemen.

Dan... One slight possibilty is that someone else on your electrical grid is using the same house code and device code for something. If you have activehome software you can have it check for this. Select TOOLS, then FIND OTHER COMPUTERS. On the HOUSECODE test page you'll see, press the FIND button. It could be that a neighbor wanted their device (maybe a fan) ON at nights, but your code kept tuning it OFF. They might have been cursing till you stopped.
