Heres what I got.

1. Samsung 700DXN-2
2. RTI RP6 (existing)
3. RTI T2C (existing)
4. RTI CM232. (existing)

For some unknown reason, samsung decided to not provide a full set of IR discretes, I have On, Off and the Magic Net (on board windows processor). Client was not happy with the workaround/delay issues caused by using magic net as an anchor, not to mention it looks janky.

Switched to Serial via CM232. I am unable to pass any commands onto the display. Have tried the following (straight off of Samsung's documentation)

"$AA,$11,$FE,$01,$01,$11" // POWER ON
"$AA,$11,$FE,$01,$00,$10" // POWER OFF
"$AA,$14,$FE,$01,$15,$28" // RGB INPUT
"$AA,$14,$FE,$01,$01,$14" // VIDEO 1 INPUT

Have tried with a straight thru cable (recomended by samsung) Null modem (recomended by RTI) tried baud rates from 9600 on up to 12,200

Display is set to default address, commands are being sent to correct port on RP6, commands are correct according to both Samsung and the AMX programmer who I bounced this dilemma off of.

In another words everything is SUPPOSED to be correct, yet it ain't working....

What am I missing??

I have never tried to control a Samsung via serial so I have no first hand experience, but I believe the settings are 9600, 8, None, and 1. Make sure you have the correct address set in the display itself, as that is part of the command string. For address 10, enter 0A; for address 75, enter 4B. I believe straight connection, not a null is needed. Have you tried to using Hyperterminal or any other program from your PC to see if you can get a response? Have you verified the CM-232 is working? I've had one or two of them go bad over the years. Is there another device there you can try it out on, or another CM-232 cable you can swap out? Hope this helps.

I'm not familiar with Samsung RS-232 but they look like hex codes so have you switched to Hex Input on Integration Designer and just entered 'AA 11 FE 01 01 11' for POWER ON

Yes, they were entered as hex commands, just as described. Settings were 9600,8,N,1. CM232 was controlling an outboard video processor up until today, did not have another one on hand.

Did not try to connect via hyperterminal due to not having a serial port on my pc and not being able to find out what USB to serial converters will function with this display (Samsung was less then helpful overall).

As a temp fix, display was switched back to IR, Bluray player was changed from HDMI to component and AVR is being used to handle switching duties between Bluray and HD cable.

The hokey ir work around is now used only for a seldom used composite device and is also in place as a semi hidden button in the event that the display ever gets switched off component by accident.

Will try to get more information and possibly revisit this issue at a later date.

Really nice display, crappy command structure, even worse manufacturer support.

Thanks for the help guys.
