I am attempting to simulate a programmable thermostat for a customer. The house has a RTI XP8/2 RK3/5 T2CZ and 2 Aprilaire 8870 T-stats.
I want to put a button on the touch screen that will run a program that automatically sets the T-stat to 60 degrees at 10:00pm and goes to 68 degrees at 6:00am. I want the button to give a reversed state if the program is running.
There are several ways to do this, I have played with the clock driver, 8870 driver, events, and the flags. I can't seem to come up with the best way to program this.
Any suggestions?

I think the simplest thing to do would be have your macro that runs the HVAC program set an XP-8 flag and have the button go Reversed when that flag is set. Then any other button that could disable that program would have to CLEAR that XP-8 flag.
Seems like it could be simple. Am I forgetting something?

I haven't thought about how to make it end user programmable but if you want to develop a few programs with preset times you can create events that occur at your programmed times. those events can trigger a system macro, create 1 for each event. in that macro test a flag, if the flag is set then send out temp "n". you can test as many flags as you want, so each flag would refer to a thermostat program. then in the remote set or clear a flag and reverse the state to show if the program has been set. this way you can have a few summer modes and a few winter modes.
macro example: test flag 1(summer mode 1) if set do x if not set test flag 2(summer mode 2) if set do x if not set test flag 3(winter mode 1) if set do x if not set test flag 4(winter mode 2) if set do x
do 1 of these macros for each time during the day you want a temp change, the timed event in xp8 can trigger those macros per your programming...

Wow, I was really hoping for a clean and simple way to do this. Looks like I'll be billing some long hours just to simulate what a $60 T-stat can do by itself.
I'll have a hard time justifiying a $425 Aprilaire T-stat to a customer now. Why the hell is the 8870 non-programmable?

it should take like 10 minutes to do several programs, it's just not end user programmable.

Yeah, i also figured out how to have user programmable temp levels too now that I've been thinking about it, you could do a full programmable tstat via flags, variables, and events.

Would it not override your controller if it was programmed? It makes perfect sense to me as to why Aprilaire doesn't make it programable. Besides that it isn't just about the 8870, It is about a controllable zoned HVAC control system with auxiliary sensors and interfaces. The 8870 is just one part of the system.
