Can anyone help out with RS232 strings for Denon DVD Players? I have downloaded the file from the Denon site but am still not advanced enough to put it together yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Glack, it's actually a case of not being able to work out the string. In the pdf file I downloaded there are 8 'parts'.
eg; Power ON - 02 SP 00 00 00 00 03 (BCCH) ???? (BCCL) ????
Play - 02 @ 00 00 00 00 03 (BCCH) ???? (BCCL) ????

In the Command Format and Answer Format section it says,
BCC (Block Check Character) :

RC + AC + PC0 + PC1 + PC2 +......... + PCn + ETX = XYh

(Each of X and Y is 4 bit long) X, Y = 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F

BCCH (high level byte) = X as converted to an ASCII code

BCCL (low level byte) = Y as converted to an ASCII code

This is where I'm lost!

ok what you need to do
they all start with 02 (for this i will use power on)
power on in the list is 20
then you scroll down to command spec for power on (p12)
02 (20) 00 00 00 00 03 this is what it looks like so far(this power on command code)
then using a hex calacator add 20+00+00+00+00+03=23 (alwas leave the 02 off the begining)
then u hex 2 = 32
then u hex 3 = 33
you can do this in the rti sofware any where you have a rp6 in the system just go into rs232 put in 2 and hit the hex button
then you put it togeather
02 20 00 00 00 00 03 32 33

I finally got a chance to work on the system this afternoon (Sunday) and worked my way through it and learnt heaps. Thanks for your help Tony.

i follow everything except when you say (then you hex 2, then you hex 3) what does that mean. will you do this process for every code.

Yes you do. If I remember correctly (without going out to my van to dig up the info!), the Power Off command is 21, so by adding 21+00+00+00+00+03=24

As RTI AV INSTALLER wrote,

So in this case,
hex 2 = 32
hex 4 = 34

02 21 00 00 00 00 03 32 34

In the RTI dealer section there is a checksum calculator that may help you also.
