I have an AX-1400 and I am trying to control a Samsung HT-2310 (Receiver/DVD combo).

I used the AX-1400 to LEARN all the buttons, but then none of them worked.

Here is what showed up under DAV folder in LEARN.TXT:
0\\LN+0A0001026\\0E430000003000000082\\

So, I built a simple IR decoder with a PIC 18F2550 and used that to determine why some of the codes that were 'learned' by my Sony remote were not working.

Here is a decode of the protocol for the EJECT button, from the Samsung remote:
BITS: 11100001011001010000011001111001
MSG: 43-53-30-30

and here is the Sony remote, after learning EJECT:
BITS: 11100001011000010000011001111001
MSG: 43-43-30-30

[Note: the second occurrence of the COMMAND is inverted and shown in raw form in the BITS line; it is inverted in software in the MSG line, so we can see right away if there is any discrepancy.]

So, it is obvious why the learned code doesn't work - it is different by one bit in the second tranmission of the ADDRESS. The original remote adds one bit, but the Sony remote does not! Arggh!

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

How to get around this?

Jake

I did some further investigation and found that my DAV should be using NECx2 protocol as described here:
[Link: remotecentral.com]

However, the AX-1400 implementation doesn't allow for a sub-device which is different than the device.

In the end, I did a 'learn' of all the keys of the remote, using RAW mode, and this work-around is adequate for now. Unfortunately, it cuts me off from any discrete codes I discover.

So, the questions remaining:
1. Is there any way to get Sony to fix the firmware?
2. Anyone know of a way to use NECx2 protocol with a subdevice?

Thanks,
Jake
