I've been using my RM AX 4000 since 2006 for my HT system and really love it, especially all the macros and the slide control. Since the buttons are starting to get worn where they are hard to press, I was thinking it might be time for a new remote. I checked the Sony website and noticed they are discontinued and all that is left is some refurbs or used units on places like EBay. What would you recommend for a replacement remote since I'm not thrilled by purchasing a used unit for almost the same price a new one cost years ago. Has anyone switched to the Logitech Harmony One and if so can you program it to do all the same activities as the Sony, and not have to be a nuclear scientist to program it? Why did Sony discontinue the 4000 and 4000a anyway? Any recommendations on a replacement that would be equal to the 4000 that would not cost $300+?

I don't have any recommendations for a new remote, but if you want to try and clean your AX4000 this thread might help. It's for an RM-AV3000 but the cleaning principles will still be the same. Sorry I don't have any instructions for opening the case.
