Ok first I'd like to say that the manual is a total piece of crap. Having that aside I have a few things I'd like to know. First I want to add and edit buttons on the LCD. My reciever needs a seperate "off" button, not to mention many other controls. Also with my reciever I'd like to have the remote automaticly switch to DVD when I press the DVD square on the LCD, actually with all my components across the board. I've had the remote for only a couple hours but nothing should be this difficult. Can somebody direct me to a map of all the functions. I had an easier time in C++ class than programing this thing. Any help or online manuals that are not written by sony would be helpful. Thanks
Rick

Button label editing: you can fully edit the labels of the bottom four LCD positions (3 pages of 4 buttons for each device). Go to the "Label -> Compo" option to do that. You CANNOT edit the label of normal LCD "squares" (well, when learning a code you can select from one of several preset options, but none of them are appropriate for what you want).

Changing to a new device from a normal LCD square: can't be done. Instead, add that command to a macro on the [DVD] device button. When configured properly, you shouldn't need to go to the [Amp] device at all to switch inputs.

Although it doesn't cover the RM-AV3100's newer features (like aliasing, key macros and beam interval), you can find a more "basic" description of the RM-AV3000's programming options in the programming guide available at the end of my RM-AV3000 review on this site.

If that's the case, what's the fully editable part of the av3100? Or can you eat it?:)

Probably something that didn't quite translate well! :-)

I mean, even the box is awkward...

"Alias function: keys memorized on other screen can be link.. [sic] it is not necessary to learning again."

"Long touch function: You can change any button keep-touching mode. And it is useful to avoid accidental operation."

Oh well, I guess it gives it that "latest in Japanese technology" feel... :-)
