Just started using my new 3100 and all is well, almost. All my compnents are programmed and working well including: Motorola DCT5100; Sony KV-34XBR800; Sony STR-DA5000ES & Sony DVP-NS715P. All the functions including power work fine. I have System Control 1 programmed to turn everything on except the DVD, switch the amp to TV input and the 3100 to the STB screen and this works fine. I programmed System Control 2 to shut everything off and the only component that shuts off is the STB. I have tried different orders and different delays to no avail. The square power button for each component does shut each off when used independently. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have a 3100 yet, so this is assumptive. There is a typo in the 3100 manual referring to system 3 as all off in one place and system 2 in another. Anyway, the instructions for clearing system 3 are the same for the 3000 and 3100, and we all know they didn't work for the 3000. Have you tried clearing all the system control keys, or at least 2 and 3, since you have 1 working. Here is the thread for the 3000 which should work for the 3100

AVOID SYSTEM CONTROL PROBLEMS

Actually, I did clear system keys 1,2 & 3 prior to re-programming. I had also printed out the help docs from the above link. When I select System Key 2 I can see the remote cycling through the appropriate components and power keys.

That's a puzzler. If they shut off independently then they should work in the macro, especially since you said you tried different delays, etc. Have you tried using the system 3 key?

Can you use the system control off key from your tv remote in the macro, which would at least turn off all the Sony components, or use system 3, which would do the same thing. Then the only problem would be the Motorola. Is the Motorola a toggle on/off or discrete?

Yes, I'm baffled as well. I have tried system key 3 as well with the default delay and that does not work.

Would I assign my system control off key from the tv remote to a softkey on the 3100 and then assign that to the 3100 system key, and then add the off key for the STB? The Motorola is a toggle. Good idea, I'll have to try that tonight. Thanks for the quik replies, as well. ;-)

Some progress. I programmed System key 2 with the all power-off from my tv remote and the result was that it shut off the tv and stb but not the amp. I added the amp power off to the macro but the key still just shuts off the tv and stb. Hopefully, I'll be able to spend some more time w/ diff. combos tonight.

Alas I don't have an RM-AV3100 myself yet - when I do I also have a bunch of Sony equipment with which to test this.

On the surface, this ALMOST sounds like the RM-AV2100 issue where it would change the toggle [Power] button to discrete [Power On] and [Power Off] buttons only during macro recording, for Sony-coded devices. The RM-AV3000 did not do this.

I note that the RM-AV2500 advertises "Sony Discrete Codes" as a feature - perhaps something like that has also been done to the RM-AV3100?

Perhaps you're onto something there w/ the discreet power versus power on/off.

After some testing last night I was able to get the Sony tv and the Motorola cable box to shut off but not the Sony amp. I had set the system key to shut off all components w/ a learned key from my Sony tv remote all power off key and then added the STB off key to the sequence. The tv and amp would shut off, then the STB and then the AMP would come back on! So I tried learning the all off key from my amp which works but does not shut off the STB. So, for now the cable box stays on during the day.

Thanks Daniel, the discreet codes worked. (Guess I missed that in the manual.) The only caveat is that I have to power off the amp last.
