(Read many of your posting and learnt alot. Thanks guys)

My VL1000 couldn't learn from my air conditioner remote but everything else works fine.

When I use the A/C remote, I notice a very brief pause before the A/C beeps in acknowledgement. If I press several times QUICKLY on the same remote button (eg. to lower temp by 3 degrees), it does not beep 3 times, instead A/C only beeps once to acknowledge. If I press Down1Degree button 3 times about 1 second apart, then the A/C acknowledges each time.

I suppose the A/C remote "calculates" several quick consecutive commands then sends just one resultant signal, so I get only one beep from the A/C. Perhaps this is done to prevent certain combinations of instructions or quick changes of instructions from wearing the A/C. For example, it might take quick presses of Up1Degree+Up1Degree+Up1Degree+Down1Degree+Down1Degree as simply up 1 degree, then send just that signal, thus saving the compressor unnecessary stress... I'm guessing here.

The result is that certain remote button presses do not send signals WHILE pressed. I tried pressing several times to try sending the signal repeatedly but the VL1000 just couldn't catch anything.

Could the calculated send signal be too brief?

What should I do?

The first question is: is the remote even infrared, or perhaps is it RF (works through walls)?

Well... it can't reach A/Cs in other rooms (behind wall) that use the same remote.... it also has the tip of a 'bulb' sticking out from the front... not sure if these confirm it as IR?

OK, likely IR.

1) All processing is done on the receiver end - so the remote just sends out exactly what you push, it's up to the reception device to figure out what to do with it.

2) How are you teaching the codes? Remember, hold the button down until the VL1000 finishes learning.

3) What brand is it?

1) I see.
2) Yup. Was able to teach from 5 other remotes correctly. Some of the buttons from this remote could be learnt too. For those problem buttons, have tried a)holding down b)press repeatedly, during 10 sec learning duration.
3)it's a toshiba aircon.
