I just received the av2500 for Fathers day - and am slowly getting it programmed (All of my a/v equipment are Pioneer Elite).
I have the basics done - however, in the DVD mode - I cannot get the cursor controls to work so I can select from the various options (I.e., PLay, scene selection, special features, etc.). Is there addditional programming that needs to be done after I have the correct code entered. All the other functions work except the cursor controls...
Thanks in advance...

You will not always get all the functions you need from any code. But if it is on the original remote, and you have that remote, you can teach it to the 2500, which has a tremendous capacity for learning.

Ron - Thanks for your response. I guess I'm a bit confused though on why one of the most basic and critical controls for a DVD (cursor control)is excluded for any remote code... but given that it is.. I tried to "teach" my av2500 to "learn" from my original DVD remote - but either it can't learn.. or I'm doing something wrong (I'm not good at things like this).
What I did was:
1) Pressed Commander Off and the DVD button. Everything started flashing includng the up,down, right, left arrows I assume are for the cursor control. The "learn was solid and not flashing.
2) I pressed the "right" arrow key on my 2500. Learn started flashing - and the right arrow became solid
3) I pressed and held the right arrow key on my original remote and after a few seconds.. the 2500 beeped twice. Learn became solid and everything else (including the 4 arrow keys) started flashing.
I then turned it off.. and tried the right arrow key.. but it didn't work. I didn't get the NG flashing on my screen while doing the setup, so I assumed it took... but evidently not. According to the instructions , in #3 of my post (above paragraph).. instead of all 4 arrow keys flashing, the "right" (learned) key should have remained solid with the others flashing.
Can you shed any light on what I am doing wrong or what other options there are to fix this... as without the ability to use my cursors to navigate through a DVD menu, it pretty much renders the 2500 useless for me...
Thanks in advance...

1. There are two possibilities: a. You can’t learn from your Pioneer DVD remote, or b. You are doing something wrong. Have you taught any other keys from this remote, and did they work?

2. (1) and (2) above are absolutely correct. In (3), after the 2500 beeped twice, the right arrow key should have been solid, and the others flashing. A solid key always means something has been learned on it, and a flashing key is available for learning. It it was flashing, the learn was NOT successful, and that is why it didn’t do anything when you pressed it after exiting the learn mode.

I loaded another unused component key with my Panasonic DVD code, and only 1 or 2 buttons did anything using the preset code, which is why I learned everything, and moved it around to where I liked it better, so preset codes don’t always mean you will have complete control (or any control).

As I said, try learning other keys and see if they work. If you are not successful, try going into a darkened room, away from fluorescent lighting, and see if that helps.

I don’t remember any reports of Philips DVD players not being able to teach any Sony remote, but this could be a new version.

Let me know how you are doing. We will keep trying until we get it right or find out more about the Philips IR coding.

Ron - you were correct about step #3 - I finally figured out the problem - My Pionner remote uses a Joystick type of cursor control and I was pressing down on the arrows in the wrong place. I went back after your post and tried again - This time it works..
Thanks so much for your help... Now I just have to figure out all these other things it can do...
Best regards...
