I have a RM-AV3000 and I use to control the RDR-VX500 because I do not have the original remote. My fiance accidently changed the mode on the DVR system to mode 2 but the mode on the remote control is in mode three and now we can't use the remote for the DVR system. Is there another remote that we can buy (perhaps by a different company) so that we can change the mode back to mode 3 on the DVR. The original remote control for the system cost $116.00 and we don't want to pay that price just to change the mode. We have already contacted Sony and have tried the codes and techniques that have recommended, but to no avail. Is there another solution?

When you said you tried the codes Sony recommended, did you mean you tried all three component codes listed in the code sheet?

But I don't think that would work anyway because Sony doesn't provide different codes for different command modes, like some other manufacturers do, like JVC and Mitsubishi.

Another remote wouldn't help because of this same reason.

The only suggestion I can make is to find a store that sells the RDR-VX500 and see if you can use their remote to copy enough commands to get into the menu and change the command code.

I read through the manual hoping there was a way to do it from the DVD recorder unit but didn't find anything there.

I have to ask the obvious question, though. How did your fiancee accidentally change the command mode from 3 to 2 on the DVR system when the 3000 was set for command mode 3 and I assume was successfully operating the DVR?

I just thought of another possibility. You could contact the OneForAll customer support center and ask if their URC-6131 or any other of their remotes can be upgraded over the phone to access the different command modes. Here's the contact info:

I prefer it when they make this type of thing a switch on the back or configurable via buttons on the front.

You could also buy a cheap used Pronto on ebay and download the codes off of this site.

I also have a RDR-VX500 without the original remote. I got an KAMELEON 15-2144 and can not get it to works with the VX500. It tells me that the Mode is incorrect. The mode is flashing MODE 3. How do you change the MODE? Is it in the VX500 or can it be changed on the 15-2144. Thanks.

You should post your Kameleon questions in the OneForAll/Radio Shack Forum.
