Is there a way I can have my Sony RM-Y909 remote control an Explorer 3250HD cable box from Scientific Atlanta?
I already have the code in the remote for the box, but all the remot can do is change the channels and turn the cable box off. I would like to have the remote to be able to open the channel menu from the cable box.

With original equipment remotes like your 909, if it ain't there then it ain't there, and of course you can't learn anything on it. These typically only provide minimal control over other components.
The TV was made in 2002, so some of the stuff in newer equipment won't be in it, plus what I said above.
Page 72 of the manual lists the few commands available on the 909 for a cable box, and the ones you want are not among them.
