I have a macro set for watching DVD's that turns on my samsung tv, sherwood stereo receiver , apex dvd player and also opens the drive door of the dvd player...It works as I hoped WHEN then the TV input is already set to DVD (s-video), but I have to manually set the TV input to my DVD player (s-video) if it were on a different input prior to hitting the system control macro...the problem seems to be that the TV uses a toggling input button to get it to S-video input....is there a way to redo the macro to include the toggled S-video option as the input source? (it's like the 3rd toggle of the input button)

also, I have a dish network 722p DVR, and use the guide quite frequently when changing channels...is there a way to 'bind' the guide button to the channel up and down buttons , so that just by pushing the channel up or down buttons the guide comes up and I'm able to change the channels through the guide listings? (before actually hitting 'ok' to take me to the channel)

1. Unless there's a way to ensure that the TV goes to a specific input/state to use as an anchor, then no. You really need discrete input codes to do this, and the VL610 doesn't have those built-in.

2. I'd have to say no to this one - the problem as I see it is all you could do is try to attach the "guide" commands to CH up/down using a micro, and I'm guessing that each time you press "Guide" it would come on... go off... come on... go off...

yea, your right on both counts....neither is a real biggie though I guess, ...I'm actually pretty pleased with this remote otherwise...the smaller buttons were a drawback at first, but I find they take a lighter touch too, which is nice...it's the first universal remote I've had that macros worked to this degree, and having ALL these buttons is the first remote that could actually cover every single command of all my dedicated remotes, particularly my DVR. I can FINALLY stow the others away!

Yeah, the DVR capabilities of the VL610 are very good for its price.

Question: what's your television?

it's a Samsung PN50A45P1d, 50" plasma....one minor oddity, I'm noticing the volume controls aren't as smooth as the original...like I have to hit it multiple times to increase/decrease the volume, I don't remember it doing that when I first entered the tv and dvr codes...

If you learned them, ensure you learned them correctly.

I'm new at this so bear with me.

I have a 2-room Dish Network satellite setup.

The satellite receiver is a Dish625 and is in Room 1. There are 2 remotes.

Remote 1 is in Room 1 and remote 2 is in Room 2.

I want to do is to be able to control the Satellite programming in Room 2 using a single universal remote. I realize the Dish receiver for Room 2 is in RF mode.

Will the VL-610 accomplish this or would I necessarily need a converter like the one below?

Thanks

I believe that with the Dish receivers, room 2 is controlled by UHF and can not be controlled by a Universal remote such as the RM-VL610, or any otther universal remote, unless it can be change to IR which I don't think it can.

Daniel,

This is a feature that I was looking for in the VL610, and think that would make this is a great remote. I found that with all the devices supports and tons of buttons, I can program all my devices to work together extremely well.

My question regarding discrete input codes is what if I can get hold of a remote that can transmit the TV input discrete codes, can the VL610 learn those functiosn from that remote?

Thanks for your help, and thanks for a very informative review on this remote.

Naturally - that's the point of the learning capability. Although you will need someplace to put those codes, such as an unused device, or one with a lot of unused buttons...

Much appreciate for the quick response! I'm glad to know there is a work around for that feature. For people who don't have 8 devices, it's a great solution.
