You would think that getting a Sony remote to work with a Sony BDP-S350 Blue Ray player would be easy, but there is no component code for the blu ray player built into the remote, and none listed in the doc. Sony's tech support was no help. It looks like someone got a Phillips remote to work with this player. Has anyone had luck with a Sony universal remote? Any clues would be appreciated!

(Thanks to this forum, I got the rest of my home theater system going on this one remote!)

As in, use the hex converter? I'm in deep stuff here! Can you refer me to a step-by-step walkthrough on this? (Yes, I see instructions in the converter spread sheet--but I don't understand. I have downloaded some ccf files in hex for the bluray player, but they don't seem to match up with what the spread sheet is asking for. And I don't know how any output from the spreadsheet macros (a new tab?) is going to talk to the remote.)

Sorry to be so dense. Thanks in advance!

No, you put the remotes together and teach the commands from one IR remote to the other. One key at a time. see in your vl600 manual under learning.

Oh... Duh! I had tried that and failed to get a response for even the power on/off, but after several more tries I seem to have power and some funtions working. Thanks!

I have the same remote and bluray player. So if the original remote is lost, do I have another way of programming the remote?

You could get an inexpensive but very versatile remote like URC-8820 and teach the signals to your remote. Amazon is selling this for 14-16 bucks. I got the 8820 because there is a vast amount of information for URC remotes here and at Hifi-Remote. So it is likely that you'll find what you need to do with this very inexpensive remote.

This would need to be the URC-8820N, not the URC-8820B00. The N suffix remote has Video 1516, which will run your Sony BluRay, but the B00 version doesn't. Both versions are sold on the Web. The N vsersion is less than a year old.

Or you could get the RCA RCRP05B at Best Buy $20.

Radio Shack 15-133/134/135 also has this setup code, and might be available used.

Video 1516 is Sony 20, device 26.226

So the short answer is, the only way for the RM-VL600 remote to work with the BDP-S350 is to have the original remote available to learn from? Since I've lost the original, is there a cheaper remote available at BestBuy that you guys know of that I could take this one back and exchange for?

As stated above, but not clearly enough, the RCA RCRP05B is available at BestBuy for $20. It will work with the Sony BluRay player using setup code Video 1516.

I think you will find that the RCA has many more built-in codes than the VL600, and it can also accept additional function codes (such as discrete on/off or eject) that aren't in the original remote.

The VL600 has the advantage of a significantly larger learning memory, but there are very few situations where the RCA needs to learn a IR signal. I think most people will be better served with the RCA.
