I have a Sony RM-AX4000 universal IR remote. I would like to be able to control my ceiling fan and light combo using this remote. The ceiling fan and light combo currently uses an RF remote. Can anyone help??

There is no way to control an RF fan with any IR remote, and there are no universal RF remotes.

If you are asking if the extender will allow you to convert IR signals to RF, the remote extender only sends the IR signals from the base station to the receiver and then converts them back to IR. There is nothing out there that will convert IR signals to RF so they can be used with an RF controlled component.

Sorry for all the bad news but RF is in a class by itself and does not work any way similar to IR.

To All Interested Parties Who Would Like To Control Your Ceiling Fan/Light Combo With Your Sony Remote:

I just installed the Lutron Maestro IR Dimmer MIR-LFQTHW Fan/Light Controls and it was a perfect match! I am now able to control my ceiling fan and lights with the Sony remote. The ceiling fan has 7 speed controls from the remote. If you are interested, unless you have an electrical background, or some type of electrical training, you may need to hire an electrician. I am an electrician, so the installation was easy. Good Luck!

Thanks for posting this. I never knew they had an IR controller. Until now they have all been RF, so this is a good, but expensive, way to control your fan with any IR remote.

I was thinking you already had an RF remote with your fan, but if you didn't have any remote at all, then this gave you a remote and a way to use the Sony remote to control it.
