Help, I have set my command mode to DVD1 and now my remote does not function apart from turning the TV on and off and controlling volume. The operating instructions tell me to change the command mode but since the remote does not work I cannot get into System Menu and Set Up in order to do this. Is there something simple I am missing?
If I could get hold of another remote for this machine, would I then be able to re-set it?
Help!

Have you set the slide switch on your remote control, its usually located behind the sliding panel or is a combination of key presses to activate it. check the manual for your dvd

Mr Mod,
Thanks for replying to my request so quickly. I cannot find the slide switch (whatever it is). I have checked beneath the sliding panel (whetre the batteries are) but there is nothing. I have checked the manual page 118 (guide to parts and controls of the remote) but there is no reference to it. I don't really know what I am looking for. Further help would be much appreciated.

Have a look at page 22 of the manual

If you have a Sony DVD player
or more than one Sony DVD
recorder
If the supplied remote interferes with your
other Sony DVD recorder or player, set the
command mode number for this recorder and
the supplied remote to one that differs from
the other Sony DVD recorder or player after
you have completed “Step 6: Easy Setup.”
The default command mode setting for this
recorder and the supplied remote is DVD3.

7 Set the Command Mode for the remote
so it matches the Command Mode for
the recorder you set above.
Follow the steps below to set the
Command Mode on the remote.
1 Hold down ENTER.
2 While holding down ENTER, enter
the Command Mode code number
using the number buttons.
Command Mode Code number
DVD1 number button 1
DVD2 number button 2
DVD3 number button 3

3 Hold down both the number and
ENTER buttons at the same time for
more than three seconds.

Guy. Thanks again for your reply. I have tried the instructions on pages 22 & 23 which you have referred to. Unfortunately the remote does not work with the DVD recorder now so I am unable to enter into set up etc to do this procedure. Unfortunately what it says top right in the box on page 23 is true: "If the command mode for the remote is changed to DVD1 or DVD2, you will be unable to operate this recorder". If only it has said this at the start of the procedure! Why on earth does it let you change the Command Mode and give you instructions if then it makes it inoperable!?!
So I seem to be stuck. I am prepared to purchase a new remote if this will solve it, but am loathe to do this if it would not help. Any ideas?

Guy, for your reference and for anyone else with this problem.
Sony have been very helpful. Turn on the DVD and your TV. Press "enter" and button 1 for 5 seconds and it will take you into Set Up. It did! Hurrah! If pressing "enter" and 1 does not work, try "enter and 2.
I'm back in business. Thanks for your help.
