OK, I'm new at this remote code hunting, but I was looking for discrete codes for my TV for power, video source and picture width. The supplied remote (RM-Y915) has only toggle buttons. How do you find out what codes can do these functions? Is there a universal remote that has these things built in? I suppose some engineer in Japan knows this stuff but it isn't published...

Get a OneForAll 6820 remote. If you can't find that one you can also use an 8820 or a 10820, but they are more expensive. This will allow you access to discrete codes.

Click here to see the advanced/discrete codes for your Sony TV.

Pick out the code you want and you can use the keymover function to add it to the key of your choice. You will have to put two zero's in front of the code because these new remotes use 5 digit advanced codes. And be sure to assign the correct device code to the device key and check to see if it works before starting this procedure.

Key mover procedure:
Press and hold Set until the light blinks twice
Enter 9-9-4
Press the device key (TV)
Press Set once
Enter the 5 digit advanced/discrete code
Press the device key again
Press the key you selected
The light will blink twice

You can use this same procedure for getting discrete codes with your other components by checking the site and locating the page for your brand, if available.
