after shopping, comparing, looking up codes, getting answers from this site - and not getting one for xmas - i finally decided to order one from amazon. "unavailable from manufacturer" .. and amazon isn't the only one, nobody has this.

it's also no longer on the sony site. a strange reaction for wired's xmas gadget issue most highly recommended remote.

i'm wondering if sony has plans for a follow-on to this product. or perhaps people found out it was too good and had a harder time selling $100+ remotes.

More likely they're just sold out as they probably didn't expect this kind of demand. I'm sure the VL710 will be a current model for some years to come - they aren't refreshed that often. Look how long the VL900 stayed around...

FYI, Circuit City has it for $35 with free shipping, and it seems to be available for in-store pickup at most locations. I picked one up at CC about two weeks ago.

Yes, I just got one from circuit city today. If you use their web-site, it'll tell you if the one nearest you has it in stock.

There is a $5 PriceGrabber rebate on this if you guys are interested. $30 + tax is a really good deal, IMO.

From what I hear, Circuit City will be your best bet for the RM-VL710 at this time.

this was in stock earlier, but now has sold out.

I saw a bunch on the shelf at circuit city today for $34.99. Nice remote, but I need more buttons. URC-100 for me :)
