Hi guys,

My rm-ax4000 arrived yesterday, and so far, I'm fairly happy with it.

The manual is absolute garbage, and the software isn't much better, but I managed to work my way through it and program all my remotes.

Much to my surprise, I had absolutely no trouble with it recognizing my old remotes.

What I'm having trouble with is the Xpress function. I've tried to set up a few functions so that my wife can turn everything on with one press of a button (i.e. DVD xpress will turn on my TV, receiver, and DVD player, etc.).

The Xpress function in theory should work quite well, but what it's having a tough time with is switching my TV input. The tv is a 53" panasonic HDTV with a total of 8 inputs that are cycled through with one button. When the TV is powered off, the last input is what it will turn on to. (i.e., if I watch a DVD, shut the TV off, and turn it back on again, it will be on Component 1, not my cable signal).

I haven't really played around with this much, and I think I'll be able to get around it somehow by adding a step in the xpress function to change the TV channel up or down, along with a delay, which will effectively also change my TV input back to my cable signal, and from that point the input could be changed to component, etc. (If that makes any sense...)

Anyone else had similar problems?

I've also had a small issue with volume lock. After programming all my components, when watching TV, the volume up/down will still control my TV volume, not receiver volume. I've gotten past this by simply re-programming my TV volume buttons to match my receiver volume buttons, but the manual explains a way to switch the volume from the TV to receiver - unfortunately the steps explained the manual don't work. I believe they may work PRIOR to downloading programming settings from the computer, and I also believe there is a way to change this in a software setting but I can't find it anywhere. I believe that once you program the remote with the USB cable and computer you can't make changes WITHOUT having it connected. And vice versa.

I think I'll be VERY happy with this remote once I get all the little bugs sorted out. I just can't believe how poor the documentation and software is. It seems as though this remote was rushed to the marketplace before it was actually tested.

Thanks,
Adam

I have a Panasonic PT-50LC13 50" LCD with 7 inputs and have this remote.. I have the input cycle thing figured out.. but have a glitch with remote in regards to the sync-up of a recvr device that accesses it's inputs directly via seperate buttons such as DVD, TV, TAPE etc.. the syncup input button is not active in the syncup process for that component.. blah.. wonder if it is a bug as I flashed firmware and redid several times with same results..

anyway about your problem..

when you created the express function and it asked you about the input of your tv, did you respond that one button controls input? and confirm you really have 8 inputs. then did you confirm the order so for example component 1 on my Panasonic is the 3rd input from initial (tuner). My Panasonic would get off by one input occasionally so I re-ordered the xpress macro to be like this (and added two delays)

here is mine for TV

alias-tv-active code-power on
alias-stereo-active code-power on
delay 0.4 seconds
alias-stereo-active code-input select
alias-tv-active code-input select
delay 0.1 seconds
jump xpress_tv

this fixed my issue since the Panasonic takes a bit to turn on and then respond to input requests I just moved the input select for tv down lower in the order, also I think the remote was trying to cycle the inputs too fast so I threw that 0.1 second delay in..

also I went straight to the component on the remote for tv and clicked Edit Keys and clicked on the input button, then edit actions, then set length of preset/learn signals to 2.. (dont know if that has anything to do w/ the xpress function as they are learned separately).. but now mine works fine..

email me if you have more questions.. maybe you have a device like my receiver that you setup with seperate buttons for each input and can test the syncup function for that for me..
