I use a sony vl900 to control a comcast supplied motorola digital cable box. The remote inadvertantly was reset to default settings and i cannot seem to get it reprogrammed. I have tried, (1) to find a 3 digit code but none seems to be available. (2) to search for the code using the remote as described in the manual. After 10 repititions of pwr/chnl+ or- the component select light flashes 3 times to indicate the numbers have turned one cycle. (3) To try to get the vl900 to learn from the comcast supplied remote ( this remote has no name of manufacture and is merely called a custon 3-device univsl remote) by pressing s until green light goes on, pressing cbl/sat button for more than 3 seconds and releasing it so that green indicator flashes rapidly, putting the remotes nose to nose and then pressing and holding the cable select button on the comcast remote. What then happens is the all the component select lights go out the green light flashes until all component lights start flashing and s indicator goes on and doesn''t flash. Eventualy they all go out but nothing has seemed to transfer. I'm probably doing something wrong but I don't know what. Any help would be appreciated. By the way the motorola cable box model # is dat2244/1661/acdeg

With the vl900, the default setting for the CAB/SAT key is SAT, so you'll to change it from SAT to CAB and then enter the cab codes.

Thanks to Edmund,my vl900 will now control on/off,recall, and channels on my comcast cable box as it did before. I have one other question. The original comcast remote allows me to access a movie menu and to order movies and control their play. Would all of these functions have to be learned individually or is there another way?

If they're not preset using the built-in codes, yes they will need to be learned.
