I would like to know if anyone has any information on the new SONY RM-AX4000. I now own a SONY RM-3100 and like it. It has locked up on me a few times, but it was from “Learning” problems. Each time the lock up happened, I solved the problem by quickly pulling up on one end of a battery and pushing it in again. The unit retained all it’s functions except for the clock.
I do like the idea of PC compatibility on the SONY RM-AX4000 , but would like some feedback on the unit before I buy it. One question I have is the SONY RM-AX4000 does not have the hard buttons for different components like the SONY RM-3100 has. This seems like a big minus unless I’m missing something. Any comments would be appreciated.
Thank you
Mike

fiatster,

I've been looking for a "semi" touchscreen remote where the device keys were on the screen rather than on hard buttons. I really don't like having to remember what buttons my laserdisk player or my CD changer is on. Seems like a small thing but, for me anyway, it's a pain (lemme see....what did I put on "Other"?) Yeah, I know, I could just hit the button but I'd rather the device be written on the button (or on the touchscreen).

Overall, I'd rather go with hard buttons on something like an MX-500 remote but I'm really tired of the problems of getting odd code into them. I'm now sending back an MX-500 (which I love) because it won't learn the souldfields on my Sony 50ES or my Pioneer DVD changer (won't learn the disk change). After two days of trying (and talking to their tech support who, incidentally, apparently don't check out Remote Central and the huge volume of great information available here I gave up and got an RMA from Newegg.

I dragged out my old VL-900 Sony and it learned the commands for the "problem" components effortlessly. Amazing and very pleased! Seems Sony remotes can handle about any odd frequency a component manufacturer can throw at them.

So, I've decided to go with the new Sony 4000 since, like JP1, I can continue my hobby of computer/remote programming UNLESS soneone here can convice me that the 2500 will do everything that the 4000 will do.

Thanks, Dan
