Unfortunately, the preset codes in most all universal remotes, including the VL-900, will not give you many of the functions you need, and without the original remote to learn from, you would not be satisfied with the results.
However, you could get a OneForAll or Radio Shack remote and gain access to advanced/discrete codes, which would allow you to load the missing functions into the remote. Unfortunately, most of these remotes have limited learning ability, so now you have several choices. You could get one of the remotes, and send the advanced codes to the VL-900, which has virtually unlimited learning ability, or use it as is and see if the capacity is sufficient for your needs, or you could get into jp1, which will let you do about anything you want with the RS/OFA remote.
