You didn't give a model number for your Elite DVD, so I can't tell which model you have. From googling, it looks like there are several types of remotes.

You can teach joystick commands in the usual teaching manner to the 3100. I use the arrow and OK buttons for my joystick commands, but you can put them wherever you like.

If yours is a normal joystick control, with buttons, then these are easily taught. I saw one remote with a multi-dial round control, which may be a joystick type control. If it is, then it may be similar to my Mitsubishi VCR remote. This can also be taught to the 3100, but if it has a variable search feature enabled by how fast you turn the inner wheel, you may not be able to duplicate this command.

If none of this helps, furnish the exact model number of your DVD and I will try and check further.

You have the multi-dial on your remote, so you can teach the "Enter" button and the 4 arrow buttons to the 3100 to navigate the on-screen displays and menus.

The scanning and slow motion control ring probably cannot be successfully taught to other keys on the 3100, but you can give it a try. If not, you still have the keys described in number 23 on the remote instructions, which will give you forward and reverse scan, slow motion, etc.
