Help... I am trying to relabel on the 3100... I want to change the "Function Display Key" label (Icon), on page 24, in Sony's instruction book ... I am missing a step or just not understanding the Sony instructions for this change... If anyone could walk me through this I would be greatfull...

Thanks in advance...

Very confusing instructions. I am giving you some links below which will help, but I will explain this particular one.

I am not quite sure what you mean by “The function control key label (icon)”, so I am assuming you mean the rectangular label keys at the bottom of the screen. If you want to change the component name, instructions are given in the link below.

To use the procedure on page 24, you have to be in the Learn mode, but you must hold the key down for 2 seconds to enter the label mode BEFORE you have learned anything on that key. The idea here, I guess, is that you can assign the label before you teach anything to the key, and then teach it, if necessary.

If this confuses you, go to the normal labelling process:
Commander off/muting
Press the Set key at the top of the screen
Press the Label key at the bottom of the screen
Press Compo (or System or Timer)
Press the component key
Press the key you want to label
Label and exit when done

These threads will answer your questions, and others which may arise.

Thanks Ron, but still having problems.... I am trying to change the "Hard Button for DVD", this is what Sony calls the "Component select Buttons"... All I want to do is relabel the labels in the DVD screen... I have not programed this button yet.... I have tried holding the button for 2 seconds but I do not get the prompt for labeling, I get the learning set up to teach the key I am pressing.... So what key is it that I hold for 2 seconds to get to the label mode???

Thanks

Still not sure exactly what you're trying to label. But...

If you're trying to label an editable LCD Label key (at the top or bottom of the screen), see [Link: remotecentral.com] and scroll down to "Edits LCD Label Keys".

If you're trying to label an icon-based function key (all the square buttons on the screen), see [Link: remotecentral.com] and scroll down to "Learns Infrared Codes" and look at the second paragraph.

If you want to use the learning procedure and label before teaching to the key:
Commander off/DVD button (this puts you in the learning mode)
NOW you hold down the rectangular label button of your choice for two seconds
Now you are in the labelling mode
Go from there

Or, you can use the procedure I gave above for the normal labelling process.

Exactly what do you mean by : “I am trying to change the "Hard Button for DVD”, and then you say “All I want to do is relabel the labels in the DVD screen”? Do you want to change the “DVD” name at the top right of the screen, and also change the label keys?

Ron... Yes this is what I want to do "If you're trying to label an icon-based function key (all the square buttons on the screen)"... I can not get the 3100 to let me label the icons.... This has been going on for the last few days, and I am ready to throw the 3100 out the window.... LOL Besides this problem with the 3100, my timers keep changing... Have set 4 timers, and the turn on times change to my last input of my last timer turn on setting.. Had them set at randum times, but my last timer input was for 6pm turn on and now all my timer are set at 6pm turn on's...

Thanks again for your help...

If you would read my thread above: How to Label, change or hide buttons, the second paragraph will explain why you can't label the square buttons.

When you are setting the timer, are you pressing the Commander Off button after completing each individual program? If you are doing this, it will save the program, so it shouldn't change the turn on time when you make another timer macro.

Do not throw the 3100 out the window until you read and digest the threads I gave above, They cover the areas where most new owner's encounter problems.

Sorry to hear that. We hate to lose a member of the club, but I remember when the 3000 came out there were several people who came to the same conclusion you did. We were hoping the 3100 would give us at least a minimal ability to relabel the square keys, but it was not to be so.
