OK I purchased this RM-AV3000 for my parents so they could more effectively use thier home theater and try to make it easier on them using macros and such. One button to do almost everything for them, IE turn on the TV, change it to video whatever then turn on dvd player and eject disc tray. All they do is put in the dvd and press play, easy enough right? Well I found out their Sony SLV-D300P DVD/VCR combo doesnt have codes. So ok fine I had to learn them all, but wait! There are two buttons on the top of the original remote for the SLV-D300P that change the controls for DVD and VCR. One says "DVD" and the other is "Video" - So my question is what advise if anyone can give me to setup this RM-AV3000 to use the functions of both the DVD and VCR with ease? The only thing I can think of is that they will have to hit "DVD" then I can program a key above it to say something like DVD and they have to press that then the functions will work. But if they forget then it will be calling me to figure it out. Any suggestions? Is there a way for me to program the remote so that when they press DVD it goes into DVD Function and automatically hits that button? The main goal is to be able to program so they hit the round dvd button then it automatically does everything for them. Then they only have to hit play. Oh and the other issue is it seems its not possible - They have a Vision Touch Sony STR-DE90ESG Reciever so they still have to use the other remote! lol seems like my good deed to help my parents keeps backfiring on me. Everyone says respect your elders! Well I say damn my elders, why should they own things they cant use anyway?! :) Any help would be greatful and thank you in advance for any help/suggestions!

You wrote so much that I can’t digest it all, so I will give you a couple of suggestions, and then you can ask again (briefly, to the point, and use paragraphs).

1. Teach everything from the VCR part of the D300P remote to the VCR key on the 3000, and then teach everything from the DVD key to the DVD key on the 3000. Now, you have two keys, already labelled, which will control each device.

2. You can make a macro on the DVD or VCR key, which you can code to turn on the tv, switch to video whatever, turn on the DVD-actually, if you have a command to eject disc tray, you can probably use that to turn on the DVD and also eject the disc tray, since most DVD’s will turn on when any button is pressed. You can adjust the turn-on time for pressing this key, so that each time you press it it won’t do the macro, in case you just want to get to the DVD screen. See page 42-To change the component macro executing time.

3. Too bad about the vision touch.

4. Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.
