I tried to configure a RM-AV2100 for my Philips 34PW850 TV with one button for all video inputs, but the remote wasn't having it. I could not get the remote to select the required input, read the post about holding the input and then select number...but that didn't work!!! I am thinking about getting a RM-AV3100, but only if it can deal with this! Does anybody know??

The input + number thing ONLY works for Sony TVs. For your Philips TV, the "input" button should rotate the set to the next input. If it does not, try learning it off your TV's original remote.

Your right about it rotating to the next input, but the problem is that the last used input stays even after a TV shutdown (if only it would default back to AV1)....meaning that there is no logic to configure a macro doing > press component select and required video input! This is a deal breaker for me..I need this option. Or is this where I should use discrete codes? if so how should I move forward?

Did you read the link I gave? 056 is a preset code for your AV2100 remote, 0054 is an Advanced Code. All this is meaningless to you if you don't read the link, repeated here Click here to learn about discrete codes.

After wading through the link and its references, you will still have questions but will at least understand the basics of discrete codes.
