I'd like to program an "on" and "off" function (not a toggle on/off) for my reciever but the remote doesn't have these buttons.

How can I teach a code that's not on the component's remote?

Thanks...

It's a Sony HT6600DP. That's the receiver/DVD player bundle.

On page 34 of the 3100 manual, it says you can program the power key when assigning the preset code. A normal press will be on, and a long press will be off. You can put one of these on your normal amp screen, and if you want, you can use any unused screen and assign the Sony preset and make the power key the opposite of the function on the other screen.

Then you can use each of these keys in the appropriate macro for on or off.

Wow, the 3100 is going to do a lot of things the 3000 didn’t.

This explains what someone was seeing earlier: that after recording a macro, the remote would ONLY send [Power On].

When recording a macro that makes use of a preprogrammed Sony device, if you need to use the [Power] button:

A short press will send the [Power On] command. You'll note that after pressing [Power] the remote will beep and the little "On" will flash inside the [Power] key.

A long press will send the [Power Off] command. Keep holding [Power] until the remote beeps. The little "Off" will flash.

*And* the remote is smart enough to send a normal learned command if something has been taught over the [Power] key (the RM-AV2100 did not do this, causing various issues).

Back to the original poster: is that a combo unit? If so, then it's possible it doesn't have discrete power commands at all.

As a workaround, does sending an input command turn the receiver on? It does on most Sony receivers...

The HT6600 is bundle, not a combo, the dvd player is separate from the receiver, which is set to AV2. The receiver needs to be set to AV1, before any discretes will work.

I knew it isn't a combo, but I missed the AV1 part. Good catch.

tempest-don't forget to change the remote to AV1 if you change the receiver.
