I have an AV2100 and I just got a Samsung directv/tivo unit. Since there are no preset codes for this unit listed in the remote's documents I've started teaching the individual commands. It looks like I'm going to have to do a bunch of work arounds or weird names for these commands since the dtv/dvr remote has so many specialized keys. Would it be worth my while to upgrade to one of the newer remotes (like the AV3100) or is this just a limitation I'm going to have to live with. Thanks.

You could live with it, others have. If you're asking would the 3100 have the same limitation, the answer is no. The 3100 has a preset code, it might be listed under philips/ hughes, thumbs and everything.

Even the new RM-AV2500 has thumbs buttons.
