The cd player, are you just trying the power key? Most sony cd players do not have remote power command, the power keys on there players are mechanical, not electric.

Well even so, would the other keys work, just not the power?

When doing a search, you can press any key which does something that you can see take place, like the "play" key. If it starts to play when you press that key in your search, then you have found a code. Of course, be sure you have a CD inserted.

I'd expect a Sony CD player to work with one of the couple of codes provided. Searching shouldn't be necessary. Make sure you've properly changed one of the component buttons to the "CD" device.

In terms of receivers... there are three Sherwood codes, do they not work?

Negative, they don't work.
