Thanks to all of you for the Info you've posted on the Sony Navitus. I've had the older Sony RM-2100 for years, and this new one is much better.

My very-brief experience with this new remote is good, and bad.

I've had the Sony Navitus RM-NX7000 for 6 days. On day-1, it charged exactly as indicated in the manual. On day-2 it lasted about 2 hours before the "low-battery" indicator came on.

[I thought I had the brightness of the display set too high. But nope.]

Day 3 it lasted about 1 hour.
Day 4 it lasted less than 1/2 hour.
Day 5 & 6 it lasted less than 2 Minutes before the "low-battery" indicator came on.

On ALL of these days the remote was left on the charger over-night (about 9-12 hours each day).

I returned it today. Thankfully, "SmartHome" quickly and graciously agreed to send me a "new" replacement.

I hope the replacement's battery works better, because it is a very customizable, and relatively-easy-to-use remote, that is, as long as it is connected to A/C power.

Hope this info helps.

And, if any of you have had similar problems with this remote's battery-life, I'd like to know.
Thanks.

My battery is lasting fine. By any chance on the first day did you have the docking station plugged in to a different wall outlet?

On all days I used the same always-on outlet. How long does your average charge last? Thx

BTW, I agree that some sort of battery status should always be available, like maybe a bar-graph or a percentage would be cool.

Another weird thing it did is sometimes turn itself on (while on the charger) even tho I had manually turned it off.

It will last for about 2 hours of absurdly heavy use. It will last a day or two at most with no use. If I leave it out of the cradle for a few days and the battery dies, it will turn on for me when I put it in the cradle. I would imagine the off is only to preserve the battery life a small amount. As for your unit since the battery did work correctly the first day, I would guess there might have been a slightly dirty contact on the charger.

Thanks boe_d

To be clear, mine was working OK for about 2 hours of "new toy" / "heavy-use" on the 1st day (after charging it), then I went to bed, so I have no idea if it would have lasted longer on the first day either.

What I was refering to on the 1st day was how it charged and came on for the 1st time, in 60 mins, exactly as stated in the instructions.

On all other days, it lasted less and less each day. I thought I had programmed it wrong... but by day 5/6 it reported "low-battery" in as little a 1 minute after being taken off of the cradle/charger.

I hope my "replacement" will last a day or two at most with no use, like yours.

Thx.
Brettly

Battery life on my "replaced" remote is about 1 hour of heavy use.
That's way better than the Original's remote 2-Minute-or-less-battery-life, but it is still too short.

The memory stick speeds up transfering / saving settings, but not by much.

This remote is soo programable/customize-able/flexible... & that's good. Just leave it on the charger.

I have had the exact same problem.

I leave it on the cradle whenever it is not in use, but if I am laying on the couch flipping through channels, it will only last an hour. To me, this is a pretty significant flaw in an otherwise great remote.

Why is it that the Navitus is getting so little attention on this forum in comparison to other remotes.

I'm guessing it isn't getting much attention because a great deal of us look forward to the reviews on the new remotes. Since this one still doesn't have its first patch out yet, I believe he said there would be no review until it came out.

I would imagine it will get a better review once the patch is available however I don't think as many people will own one until it gets a review since it is a major investment as far as remotes go.

I'm happy with mine - MUCH more than any other remote I've ever owned or tried but I understand there is plenty of room for improvement.

P.S. My biggest complaint about the remote is the fact Sony won't let you contact them regarding suggestions or issues for he next patch. Their FAQ is a sealed group of questions that allows no dynamic input for any new questions. So even if 1000 people all wanted to know how to add a power button or modity the physical buttons on the home page, they will never know and neither will Sony.

I'm just checking to see if you, or anyone else has figured out the all on/off problem from the home page while staying on the home page. This is what I am trying to do and it is not working. If you could program it to jump to a page(home page) that would solve the problem, wouldn't it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well I see a few things reading through these posts.

The battery life is just AWEFUL! This must be the reason why there where so many delays in getting this out to the public! 2 hours or less on a full charge? I'd need a backup battery to get me thru the night of TV viewing! A handful during the weekend when the kids are home watching stuff!

Why hasn't there been a review? The reasons suggested- waiting for a patch or first upgrade, seems a bit lame IMO. No offence to those in charge around here, but I'd expect a review on a new item when they first come out. Is it the norm to wait until the item has been out for a while and has had a "undate or patch" before reviewing? I thought the purpose of the review was to inform us and let us know what to expect from a new remote. GOOD or BAD? Or are you guys tied by a contract with any remote manufacture that gives you one to test to only write the good stuff? or slant the evidence in a positive way? (No way to slant a 60 minute battery time as positive!)

How about the software? Is it available for download like the pronto stuff is? I 'd like to compare these two software programs to see if I'd actually prefer the Sony over a "pronto" or pronto clone.

I'm a huge sony fan, everything in my HT is SONY ES (excpet my HTPC) , down to the speakers and I want one of these, but it doesn't seem like the remote is up to par with others in it's price range yet. Am I wrong? I hope so.

I hope this gets answered pretty fast as someone offered to sell me one of these units for $150.00 but I am not sure if would be a good thing to do.

Cany any one tell me if that would be a recommended deal whether considering the price or not...
... worth it and/or I would be buying into more problems than it might be worth. (I guess I am actually drawn in my the color screen as opposed to a newer model remote from Sony.)

Last, is the product current enough to do a reasonable job with my KV34XBR960 high definition tv, and my DHG-HDD250 high definition digital video recorder to which I will be adding a home theater speaker system in the near future???

Thankx!

PS I see the RMNX7000 remote still at

Sony parts LINK for $799.99.

Buy it, people here including myself are working on software that will convert pronto and other codes to use with the newer sony remotes
