Can anyone explain how it is possible that only my Toshiba fails to pull in PBS when the Samsung on the same branch 3 feet away does, along with 2 more sets way further away from the amp, all having the same splitters, with the same loss on all outputs? Any input is welcome.

You assume that the tuners are all the same in each brand of the TVs. They are NOT! And some absolutely do a better job of tuning in channels than others. As far as what you can do.... To troubleshoot things like this, you really need a signal meter. Without having any clue about how much signal you are working with, you are simply guessing and trial & error. You have an RF amp in your system, what if you already had enough signal. You know it is possible to clip the input of an RF amp with to much signal, causing harmonic distortions and overload. That can cause a lot of TV tuners to not be able to lock onto a signal. Have you tried bypassing the amp & splitters and connect the coax directly to the Toshiba? Result?

I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right. |

Also, how old is the Toshiba? Maybe it's a bad tuner? Have you tried hooking up the Toshiba to the cable plugged into the Samsung and vice versa? The splitters lose signal, maybe that line has lost too much signal.

Thanks guys, The Toshiba is 8 yrs old & still won't get ch12 with or w/o the amp, direct from the attic antenna without the system. All signals are between -50 & -40 dBs, all the sets are within 60' RG6 of antenna and I'm pretty far from the metro. Brad got me thinking about the older tuner so I checked the menu & I noticed that the physical channel number was different than on the other sets somehow & only for PBS. When I tuned up to the next slot there it was - all 3 PBS subs. I have no idea how it changed and didn't affect the newer sets, but when I re-scanned, they all came back. It's as if the other 3 tuners saw the move & corrected the virtual channel for it? The Toshiba is still terrible but now gets the same broadcasts. Another 2 pair of eyes ! Thanks for the kick.
