Or there is space on the CBC tower...

Space on the tower actually isn't a big concern as they could share an antenna with one of the analog UHF broadcasts. The big problem is they are exceeding new standards for maximum electromagnetic radiation permitted in public space for a small area in the park near the tower. Until this is resolved, no changes can be made to the tower. Several plans to fix this have been put forward and most of them were rejected for one reason or another. I believe they now have a plan in place but don't know the time-line for it.

It is actually a bit ridiculous as the levels are perfectly fine for occasional exposure. The new regulations though assume prolonged exposure (several hours every day). Considering how small the area is, unless someone decided to pitch a tent and live in the park, or sunbath for hours a day in that small area, it won't cause problems for anyone. It is an example of bureaucracy gone crazy.

I am not sure but I highly doubt if you could get a St Catherines or Welland station from Ottawa.

There are no television stations in St.Catharines nor in Welland.
To date all applications have been refused.

Another channel not on the list:

4-1 CBOT-D

Antenna facing south....

Btw, if experiencing no Dtv channels check that you Tv is set to "Antenna" and not "Cable"

Frank

P.s. Any one in Orleans getting more channels? I am using a Belkin powered pureav antenna

frankk74,

Both of those channels are on the list. They are sorted by there physical channel numbers (22 and 25 respectively). Your TV remaps them to 9-1 and 4-1 since those are the channel number of their analog equivalents. None of the other local stations do that for some reason.

In Orleans you should be able to receive all 6 local DTV channels. With a good antenna you may also be able to receive either WNPI or WCFE. Check TVFool for your address to see what your chances are.

drunkenrobot, what type of antenna are you using? You are missing 65-1 CityTV (on channel 17) and 6-1 Global.

I'm using a $5 set of rabbit ears in Sandy Hill. I'm going to get a better antenna soon, I should be able to pull in those last two then.

drunkenrobot, as expected, many people are having troubles with Global on channel 6 with indoor antennas.

If you do decide to upgrade your antenna, don't just get more expensive rabbit ears as they probably won't be any better than your $5 pair (they will actually likely will be worse). Also stay away from the cheap antennas many computer stores are selling. I recommend checking out OTA Canada in Carlingwood mall as they only sell name brand antennas (such as Channel Master, Wineguard and Antennacraft). The Source has also started selling Channel Master antennas.

Good to know. I was going to get an 8 bay bowtie... but it looks like a few stations are still in the VHF band. I tried my Antennas Direct Lacrosse and got better reception with the rabbit ears. I'll see what OTA Canada and The Source have. Save me having to order from the US.
