There's a lack of understanding here. It just could be that I don't use exactly the same words so I don't understand what you're saying. Let me have a go at it:

So can [I] use these addresses to program my ReplayTV 5000
series DVRs?
No. In general you will find that different brands of equipment use different codes. Replay codes don't work TiVos don't work DirecTV units, and you can write that in whatever order you want.
was told by DirecTV that all DirecTV branded
receivers had their IR codes disabled so they would NOT
work with TiVos and ReplayTVs...
Well, if the IR codes were disabled, they wouldn't respond to any remotes at all. You don' call a Sony remote disabled just because it won't operate a Samsung. If a TiVo won't control a DirecTV receiver, that's TiVo's fault for not including the codes in their remotes, not DirecTV's fault -- unless DirecTV has a legal ability to keep TiVo from having the codes to begin with. That could be!
and of course to force
the consumer into using their inferior DVRs. If these
code work that would be terrific.
Yes, it would be terrific.
If I can NOT use my ReplayTV to change channels on my
DirecTV H20 and my HR20 receivers,
Wait a minute -- why should an old DVR play a unit that wasn' on the market, and for which there were no IR codes, when it was made? It's normal that old remotes won't have codes for new products.
then does anyone know
where I can find/buy the NON-DirecTV branded versions
of this receiver??? I want to stay on the H/HR20 because
of all the new HD channels coming out this fall. They are
only supposed to work on those receivers (again, this is
according to DirecTV).
DirecTV has DirecTCONTROL of which models will be able to receive HD programs. No, you won't find any non-DirecTV brand receivers. They will be using satellites that haven't been used before, and once that starts, only the new DirecTV brand receivers will receive them. Sorry, because their DVRs are to TiVo what AOL's browser is to IE : it sorta does the same thing, but in an odd retarded way. You can get used to them, but your cursing vocabulary might increase.
