I know this is like comparing apples to oranges. Hard Button remote vs. Touch screen. I was originally in the market for a Hard button remote but after looking at the TSU-3000, am considering it against the MX-500. What are the main advantages over each? I know the 3000 has endless macros but is there any other points I am missing? Does the 3000 have enough buttons to use without looking down at the touch screen? I am looking for users of both or someone with knowledge of both remotes to help me decide. I would like to order a remote today. Thanks-Michael

aw comon guys. Poor mike has a pile of money burnin a hole in his pocket and wants to have it spent today. Surely one of you can advise him. Anthony, you're usually pretty quick on helpin a guy blow a wad, How come you haven't jumped in?

Don't ask me, i hate going shopping with the wife. She'll ask me if we should get something and i invariably say "Nah, we don't really NEED it".

Actually, for the few pieces of equipment you need to operate and control, I just fail to see why your 1994 wouldn't serve you well. But then, the missus has probably already brought that up.

As for touchscreens: Your wife *mite* appreciate your eyes being on the remote more often; that keeps your lustful eyes off her. However, I'm not so sure she'll appreciate all the "rewinds" because you missed a "good part" lookin for the "zoom" button.

Rob has his 1994 setup to control 13 devices; mine actually does more than that. My HT system probably isn't as impressive as yours. i don't like integrated units (like receivers) so mine is composed of all discrete components. Not counting the 10 speakers (No, none are them tiny shoebox size like in typical HTIB's). There's close to 30 individual components. 2 pre-amps, 3 amps (one 4 channel, 2 2 channel); 3 cd payers (2 are matching 5 disc his and hers), laserdisc player, 2 vcr's, dvd, TV, 2 cassette decks, a stereo R-R deck, a 4 channel deck, an 8 track deck, tuner, 4 dynamic range enhancers, 2 eq/RTA's; 2 Noise reduction units, CD recorder,2 turntable, CD-4 demodulator, etc. One preamp/router gives me 17 inputs, the other 8. I can 1. Record a laserdisc to VCR, 2. record cd to cd recorder or cassette, or R-R (while customizing the mix), while 3. watching satellite tv. All without touching a cable. Press one button, and my remote is configured for the bedroom (Just a TV, VCR and dvd)(I still don't know why I did that since we have a 6800 configured for the bedroom stuff. Just because I could I guess).

Oh well, hope you'll be happy with your new ????

Jim

Michael: I don't have a 3000 yet, but in my experience you can setup a Pronto so that you don't have to look. The trick is to create large buttons

I am surprised the site is still up with all the traffic my post caused. In my short tenure here, one of the usual suspects showed up: James. Seems I can coun't on him for advice no matter what the post. No wads of money here, I just cut down the money tree to get line of sight for DIRECTV! As much as I love my 1994, I also want a new toy. More reason to send it to the bedroom! And my decision was....drum roll... None of the above. I went with the MX-700 because it had the PC interface and also had the numerous hard buttons I was originally in the market for. I have to say the pronto looks awesome and would make a nice addition to my HT room but I decided to pass on the battery eating Pronto. I didn't want to spend even more to get the docking station. Bring on the MX-700, it comes in 2 days with priority shipping! I hope I made the right decison becuase the Pronto just seemed like a nice toy that could keep me busy programming it for ever....

I almost forgot to thank Surfremote.com, where I ordered the MX-700. They had a great sale price of $243 with free shipping! I called and spoke to one of the technical reps. (sorry but forgot his name) and he helped me make my decision based on running Pronto 3000 facts against MX-700 facts. Great support esp. when I had even yet to buy a product from them! I would highly recommend them. To tell you the truth, I really wanted the MX-800 but couldn't justify spending the $500 it would have cost to obtain an RF function. $250 was a steep price top get an RF remote......

ironmicd: enjoy your new remote. On the other hand it does not surprise me concerning SRC, MikSRC as he is known here or mroll as he is known on AVSforum is a huge contributor to the knowledge base. It does not surprise me that he or someone working for him would be just as helpful when you are with them on the phone
