All,

Just an FYI, Vista and the Pronto programming software don't work at all together. App keeps crashing, probably due to the driver methodology changes in the OS.

So, make sure you keep an XP PC around for now. :)

I thought Peter Dewildt had it working after setting the compatibility mode to XP.

No...application kept crashing, even in XP SP2 compatibility mode.

I even had to install using compatibility mode...

What exactly is crashing?

I am now running the final version of Vista and I have had no problems running both ProntoProEdit NG (for my 7000) and ProntoEdit Professional (for my 9600).

I have not tried downloading to either Pronto yet with the final Vista. With the previous release (RC2) I could talk to my 7000 but not my 9600.

Well, I don't have a debug version of PPENG, so I don't know exactly what is crashing. I'm running Vista RTM, and w/o the remote even plugged in, I click on the PPENG icon, and it automatically goes to the new crash screen.

This is with having to run the installer under compatibility mode as well as the app.

Maybe I'll try it again tomorrow.

This is the error in event viewer:

Faulting application ProntoProEdit NG.exe, version 2.1.8.0, time stamp 0x44618d5c, faulting module ProntoProEdit NG.exe, version 2.1.8.0, time stamp 0x44618d5c, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000d7e2, process id 0xac0, application start time 0x01c70c5bbc8584ed.

I double click on the PPENG icon without any problem. You only need to set the install kit to compatibility mode. PPENG works fine without it.

Nope - there's something else going on - I get the same as the other posters - whatever the settings, the app always crashes. It installs fine in XP SP2 mode, but whatever changes I make, I can't get it to run - I'm running Vista RTM. Anyone found a way to get over the problems?

Maybe it is because I am an Administrator.

Have you tried running it in Admin Mode? Right click on icon and select "Run as Administrator".

I'm running as a Domain Admin in my setup, and am a local admin on my PCs. Haven't tried a reinstall yet though.

My two work PCs and my two home PCs are now all running Vista. PPENG runs OK on all 4.

- Run in compatiblity mode XP SP2 in ProntoEdit NG shortcut
- Disable Visual Themes in ProntoEdit NG shortcut.

I had same issue ( crash), but after these changes it started working properly.

I have now encountered this problem. My work notebook has been running PPENG and PEP on Vista without any problems, or any need to adjust compatibility settings.

Yesterday I have rebuilt the notebook. I installed both PPENG and PEP and they worked fine. Last night I went to use PEP and I encountered the problem others have reported.

I can't get either program to work. I have tried various compatibilty settings and turning off Aero, but nothing has worked.

It worked yesterday but not last night. It worked before rebuilding but not now.

Go figure!

It is working again now. The only things I have done since I last looked at it was to install Visual Studio 2003 and reboot. I guess the reboot did it.

The Pronto Font or ODBC Data Sources might not have been registered properly and I'd be willing to bet that the reboot made it happen.
