I have older Sony CDP-C545 CD player with remote rm-D545. Remote has no IR button on/off and player has a on/off switch you push in to activate. Any way short of getting a power plug IR switch to send an IR on/off to this player?

Have you tried using the Discretes for this player? These MIGHT work: [Link: remotecentral.com]

If you can please post the IR code for the On/Off button. It would help us alot more. People like Johnsfine can tell the kind of protocal and maybe help you a lot more through that.

Thanks for the reply Ali, I'll try the link but so far I have not found discrete on/off codes for this player ... I'm afraid that it's hard on/off switch can't be bypassed with an IR code ... but if I find a solution I'll post it here.

Here's one idea from the FAQ page:

Did you try the codes on the page? How did they work out?

If you had just searched the site you would have found the CCF below with the codes in it =].

I'm a bit skeptical. The players I've seen with mechanical power switches do not respond to any Power IR commands at all. I mean not just a push button power switch, but one that you push and it stays in, then you push again and it comes back out.

I don't understand why these were ever made, but it's probably another example of a manufacturer not having a clue how remote control systems should be constructed for use in the real AV world.

The workaround is to leave it on all the time and be sure you have a CD STOP command in your power-down macro. In fact, it would be good to have a CD STOP command in every other source macro just to be sure you don't wear the thing out.

Imagine the stupidity of a 300-disc player in PLAY that can't be turned off by remote! When the unit's stopped, the motors turn off and so don't wear out, but if a player like that is left in PLAY, it can go for more than a week!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Yea, if the codes didn't work that means Ernie's right as he always is!

No, I'm not. Wait, yes I am...the key is that I usually think I'm right and I speak or write with authority. And examples. No, wait, I'm not quite sure it's that....

Either way, thanks for the compliment but be sure anything I say passes the stink test, which is just a more graphic way of saying a reality test. I've been doing a lot of typos since my fingers have been numb and I don't want anybody getting shocked to death because I wrote something and they didn't realize it was BS!

Somewhere I read a quote like "Be careful when you read health books: you might die of a typo!"

I've never seen a Sony non-jukebox CD player with mechanical power switch that responded to any sort of remote power codes. I think only the jukebox models do.

If you really want to turn it off at times, look into a switched outlet/module (X-10 or other), or perhaps your receiver has a switched outlet you can use...

I think sony assumes that you are going to plug them into a switched outlet on a receiver anyways.

I leave them on and usually don't use the switched outlet. The power down macro does have a few Sony-CD-Stop commands. Only time I really have this is with the 5 disc changer. But I have beaten sales into not selling those and going to some sort of server. Even if its as lame as an ipod on a table.

I need to put in a DLO to see if it is something that makes customers happy. Ipods on the wall that you have to get up to select a song... that is just a joke! But sales thinks its OK because they used to get a real nice spif to sell them.
