I will be building a new PC in the near future and need to decide on an OS. I can go with XP PRO SP2 ($100, Full OEM) or with Vista. I'm aware there's other threads on this topic but are there any issues with Vista I should be aware of whether it's with ProntoPro Edit NG software or communication both ways (uploading, downloading) with the remote to the PC?
Would it be a mistake going with XP PRO now? I will likely want Vista Ultimate later on. In that case, can you do a clean install with an Upgrade package or do you need the Full Edition?

PPNG is okay under Vista. In the end, you will want Vista, if you are building a new PC, I would go for it. There are problems, but it is getting better everyday. And yes, you can do a freash install using the upgrade, you just need to google the procedure to do it.

I've had no problem with ProntoEdit and Vista. Just run the setup in compatability mode. Search here for Vista and you'll find directions.
I just looked. You can get an OEM Windows Vista Home Premium for $111 on newegg.com.

I wonder if I could get NG Pro to run under WINE... Anyone try that yet?

Just thought I'd update to say that I'd be going with the Vista 64-bit version .. I probably should have mentioned this before. Is everything mentioned about (two-way communication, drivers, pronto edit software, etc with the NG remotes) work fine in this? I use a 7000 (which I know uses the same firmware/software as the updated 7500).

I don't recall anyone having said that they have tried installing on 64 bit Vista. I can't imagne any problem with the editor, but communications is something else.

I plan to use a 64-bit processor, so I thought the 64-bit version of Vista would be better...? I know it comes with discs for both the 32-bit or 64-bit versions.

Technically 64-bit would be better. However, not that many software and hardware vendors write drivers and software for 64-bit. The 32-bit software still works but it doesn't take advantage of the 64-bit opperating system or hardware. Before you decide to go 64-bit make sure there are drivers for all of your hardware.
