I copied that straight from the website. What you see is what you get.
Whatever lock-up issue it was must have been important enough for them to address it.

This was to fix a lock-up problem unique to those with PCF's containing codes from the IR code database.

Units I have programmed tend to feeze about once a month. SO when I hand off to the customer I often start with... "Electronic devices pretty much always have a reset on them... here is this one's. Remove the back panel like this. Please just hold it flat in one hand and slide it... do not get a tool and pry it open. Pop a paper clip where it says reset. You will hear two beeps and the remote returns to when I walked out the door. IT DOES NOT ERASE THE PROGRAM."
Something like 90% of the calls after the fact are cured with...did you reset the remote yet? bee beep "Hey its fixed now." Just remember the reset trick and you will be back in business right away... no need to wait to call me the next day. "Thank You!"

Springs I found by drilling a small hole in the back cover over the reset, it simplifies resetting for the users, specially those that can't get that back off. Paper clip and they're back in biz. Dan

Not a bad idea. Sure it will goof up the occasional RMA but considering the amount of times people reset the thing in the life of the product... NOT BAD AT ALL!

I use them as a price point alternative to the RTI T3 since I have a good template base for the equipment I use but any sevice call is a bad service call as far as I am concerned.

Well service call handeled on the phone with ... did you hit reset yet? Well that is not that bad.. and once they do it they do it whenever.
I would be happy to move to RTI full time but my boss likes what he knows. Plus the change in price of the Pronto gives him a better rip.

Unplugging, then plugging back in the battery accomplishes the same thing. Much easier than hitting the reset button if you ask me.

Jotne, LOL I think the reset button is documented in the manual. Even the Classic Pronto and Marantz Remotes have a reset button.

Lowpro Thats what I did occasionally, when no clip was available, but then I had a wire break off the plug once, took an hour of futzing around to fix it, not worth the time lost. Another customer bent the pins trying to force it back on the wrong way. Also had my dad break the display by squeezing so hard to get the back off! Forgot to drill the hole, dumb, dumb. Never had anyone screw up the paper clip trick, though, but there's still hope ! Dan

Ouch! That would suck to have those things happen. Makes a good argument for drilling the hole in the back cover and using the reset button instead.
