The TSU 7500 has 48 mgs. Right now Pronto Edit says my file has 58% free memory. The size of the file is 8.73 mgs. This would indicate that at 17mgs I would be tapped out. I know from other posts that these numbers are sort of relative. Has anyone really "filled up" their 7500...and what kind of numbers are you looking at.... (size of file shown in windows / free memory shown in Pronto Edit)?

glendagary -

I own a TSU7000. The size of my current pcf is 8,394 KB and has 48% free memory.

The one user that has indicated on this forum that he is almost out of memory is Lowpro (TSU7000). I took a look at his recent pcf, size wise it indicates 13,666 KB with 1% left.

However, the subject of free memory is a tricky one to understand. I believe the size of the file isn't proportional to free memory. Maybe someone who knows the particulars can chime in with their expertise?

I own a TSU7000 which has 32 megs of memory. Only 28 megs or so are actually available for ones PCF. The rest is used by the OS and internal IR code database. Taking that into account let's look at my PCF. The physical size of my current PCF file is 13.3 megs. Keep in mind however that a PCF is nothing more than a zip file. The size of my PCF uncompressed is 31.6 megs. That's well past the 28 meg mark, yet my PCF still downloads successfully to the remote showing 1% free memory left. Obviously there is still some compression going on when downloading my PCF to the remote, so other factors are at play here. To get a clearer picture of what is being downloaded to your remote I'd suggest monitoring the size of the data directory where PPENG is installed once you've started the download process. This directory is where the files from your PCF are complied to be downloaded to the remote.

Emulate your PCF. In the folder where PPENG/PENG executable is located, there will be a folder named SIMULATOR. Inside this folder, there will be a file that, I believe ends with .dat or .bin. This IS the binary content that gets downloaded to the remote. The size of the PCF zip file is NOT a good indicator. The file in the SIMULATOR folder is the ONLY indicator you should be using.

FYI, when downloading your PCF to the remote, the same file is output into the DATA folder but it is removed when download completes. So, I highly recommend using simulation to determine exact file size.
