How do you use the "free" button that is on the button set of keys? I believe they are called "hard keys?"

The hard keys at the bottom of the display can be defined through editing program for how they act for that device. I think this is set through Preferences panel for that device. I haven't figured out how to get rid of the Tools key yet, though
