Hi, I have just been offered an MX-3000 which says "MX. 3000 v.6.6" under the battery cover. Can someone tell me if this is relatively recent, and how much memory it has?

its pretty recent.....I beleive before the newest version of the 3000 was released, they were up to version 8 or close to that. I would say that your 6.6 version is roughly 3-5 months old....anyone correct me if im wrong...-pete

Well, my remote is roughly 3 months old and I have a v8.8. My first remote was a v1.0 which I happily upgraded from in favor of a newer version.

It is my understanding though that as long as you have a v3.6 or newer you have the most current version of 'hardware'. (Brighter screen and 64MB of memory) All versions since this are just firmware/software updates, which are available via LiveUpdate. So even if you start with a 6.6, after performing a LiveUpdate and Sync you will have a seemingly identical remote to the newest version.

Bracken, the hardware part is not true. The latest version of the hardware has a redesigned charger base, two speakers in the hand grip area, and a standard mini USB port instead of the proprietary one on earlier versions. This new version was introduced early April '05.

Well see there, I learned my new bit for the day. Obviously the v6.6 in question is older than this since my v8.8 is still of the proprietary style USB cable.

What exactly changed in the charging cradle? I did notice that my new one doesnt require the remote being 'snapped' down.

Thanks for the correction Dino, dont want to be giving out incorrect information, and always glad to learn something new.

Cradle and USB I don't think I care about, but does the speaker number/placement have any material importance?

I have one of the older units with the one speaker, even with the volume cranked the loudest of wav files are weak - can't imagine why they even gave you the ability to turn them down.

Yes, I believe the new cradle design was introduced at version 8.8, but the new speaker configuration and USB cable are only on the latest ones (the newest ones don't have a version number, but a date code instead).

Yes, the new unit's speakers sound fine. I don't have any problems hearing them and don't have to crank the sound up.

Too late, already bought the 6.6...

It looks and feels fantastic, and I haven't done anything more than putting in the battery and placing it on the charger, Just the default first page looks spectacular compared to my old Marantz RC-9200! Now I can't wait until I buy one of the Guiwerx designs.....

Hi,
I have just got a version 8.8 MX-3000. Can anyone tell me how old this would be roughly? Have I got the new charger? With my charger you can sit the remote in it and it will start charging Lights come on etc), but you can also lightly push down on the front of remote and it will clip in? Im confused as to whether this is the new or old charger?
Also would mine have the latest brightest screen? It appears that it has the old usb cable, and speaker under logo. Are there any other difference?

Ver 8.8, I believe, was the last version before they stopped using numerical version numbers. The newer ones have designations like "N3".

The 8.8 is supposed to have the same screen as the newer version. I use a 8.8 and the base and cable work just fine.

I also have one of the newer ones. The bases look identical. The newer one lacks the little tab close to the electrical contacts so it does not snap into the base. Don't know why they changed from snap in to no snap in, but maybe it was confusing. Or there was a possibility the snap in sometimes was not done properly so the recharging contacts were not made.

Also on the new, there are two little elongated openings (for speakers?) on either side, underneath in the hand grip areas.
